You’re not lazy or broken.
For many women 40+, weight gain has less to do with effort and more to do with using strategies that no longer match your physiology.
Small adjustments (especially around nutrition, strength and consistency) can change everything.

As a fitness coach for the last 12 years, I’ve seen all sorts of mistakes with the lateral lunge.
Here are 3 of the biggest mistakes I see, in no particular order…
❌ Leaning to the side instead of sitting into your hips
Any time someone tells me they have knee pain on lateral lunges I know EXACTLY what they’re doing wrong.
Done properly, lateral lunges should NOT hurt your knees.
You’re simply shifting your hips back into your hip socket, loading your adductors (groin) and posterior chain (glutes and hamstrings) muscles.
Your knee won’t track laterally after you complete the step. It will remain stationary.
❌ Not stepping wide enough
To fully engage your adductors (groin), you need to step wide enough to keep a deep stretch.
How far should you step?
As far as you can while maintaining control of the movement.
❌ Keeping your torso too upright
A lateral lunge is a posterior hip shift.
Your hips should be going back.
In order to get your hips back you need to let your torso come forward to counterbalance the movement.

If you’re over 40
Here’s how to look and feel younger than most people your age…
1. Lift heavy weights 3-4x/week
2. Do cardio 1-3x/week
3. Walk 10k steps/day
4. Eat the appropriate calories for your goals
5. Eat 0.7 to 1.2 g/lb of BW in protein
6. Do mobility work 10 minutes/day
7. Get rid of negative people
8. Do athletic activities like hiking, biking, running or jumping every week
Consistency compounds!
