Wednesday, August 5 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Come join us! We're building a new playspace for the kids of Prince William County!

In October, volunteers from Prince William County Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Amazon and KABOOM!, will build a great new place for kids to play! The project will be kicked off at Design Day, where a KABOOM! Project Manager will lead an interactive meeting for adults and kids to share their ideas! We need to be sure the Miracle League of Prince William County families are represented too.

Location: George Hellwig Administrative Building, 14420 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA 20112

Purpose of the Children’s meeting is to get input from the “playspace experts” (the kids, of course!) about what they would like to see on their new playspace. Youth involvement and participation are important parts of the KABOOM! community-build model and Design Day is an essential first step in including and thinking about the interests of the children at every stage of this project.

Purpose of the Adults’ Meeting: Kick off the KABOOM! planning process by introducing the playspace build model and identifying volunteers who can take on leadership roles. This leadership team will develop ideas and action steps to ensure a successful project.

We’re looking for individuals who can commit to weekly one-hour planning calls over the next several weeks and lead in the following areas
•​ Site Features & Facilities: Utilities knowledge, tool acquisition, delivery ​& construction logistics
•​ Community Outreach: Volunteer Recruitment

We’ll also review the ideas generated by our "kid experts" and select playground equipment for the final design.

Kid Design Session - 1 Hour
The Project Manager from KABOOM! will lead a fun activity with kids who will design and draw their dream playground. Crayons and drawing pads will be provided.

Adult Planning and Design Session - 1 Hour
The Project Manager from KABOOM! will share a powerpoint presentation to community stakeholders, adults, parents and any other community members who want to learn more about the planning process and help design the new playground.

It's a Party!

Light refreshments and fun activities for the kids will be provided.

Prince William County Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is excited to partner with Amazon and KABOOM!, a national nonprofit organization, to create a new all-inclusive playspace at George Hellwig Memorial Park.

We need your help! We've created a brief survey that will help inspire the new play space design at George Hellwig Memorial Park. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a Design Day event on August 5, where you can share ideas and help create a playspace that reflects the needs and dreams of the community.

Join Prince William County Parks & Recreation, Amazon and KABOOM! on Wednesday, August 5 for a Design Day Workshop where you and your child(ren) will help us design the new playground at George Hellwig Memorial Park! Your support is essential to making this project a success. During this workshop, you will learn more about the project and how to get involved to turn the kids’ dream play spaces into reality. Kids and adults are invited to share their visions for the new playground design at George Hellwig Memorial Park in Manassas. Light refreshments will be provided.
