Lakes of the North

A residential, recreational community in Northern Michigan. A residential, recreational community located in Northern Michigan. This is the official Lakes of the North Association page, administered by the Lakes of the North Board of Directors and its management team.

Our intent is to provide information to the Lakes of the North membership, without bias or hidden agendas. Articles will be published here to inform members of decisions and discussions that affect the membership, and to dispel rumors and misinformation that some members hear. This is intended to be a service and a more expedient way of communicating but is not intended to be a two way conversation or debate or town hall, as that would be impractical. As always, the membership is encouraged to seek out factual information by attending board meetings, or calling, emailing or visiting your board members or the association management office. We are asking for help to raise money for the Pink Ribbon Riders. They are a great group of people raising money for breast cancer.
We have several ways you can help.
1. Purchase a Pink Ribbon which we will hang on our Christmas tree which will be prominently displayed in the front window of Settings.
2. When purchasing a togo order from Settings, we can round up your bill to the next dollar and those proceeds will go to the Pink Ribbon Riders.
3. Cash donations are always appreciated.
4. Starting Saturday November 21st, Settings will have a deposit container where you can leave your returnable bottles and cans.

Great group of people and a great cause!
Let's all come together in these difficult times and do what we can to ease the burden on the families.

Great first day!
Thank you to all who came out and supported Settings last night! We will be taking orders starting at 4pm tonight.

Due to the nature of this week's In Brief we will be releasing it on the Lakes of the North Facebook account as well as our website (www.lakesofthenorthhoa.com). To view future additions, please sign up.

Greetings Members
This week you are receiving your In Brief a day early. We felt it was important for our members to be aware of the operational changes due to the Michigan Health Department Emergency Order under MCL 333.2253.

Board Meeting
The November 21st meeting of the board of directors will be done virtually and live streamed on the Lakes of the North page for the membership to view. (A link to the Lakes of the North page will also be posted on the association website).

Management Office
To provide service to the Lakes of the North membership, and operations, the management office will continue to be staffed Monday through Friday. In compliance with the latest orders staff will work remotely when possible.

Please call us at 231-585-6000 with any Lakes of the North business or questions you may have, as the office will not be available for walk-in service. You may also email us at [email protected].

Clubhouse
The clubhouse will be closing effective immediately and will remain closed until December 9th or until further guidance allows us to reopen. We have moved up our annual maintenance, previously scheduled for December 1st through the 18th, which will allow us to then be open when guidance is given by the State.

Settings
Unfortunately, with the new guidance we have been forced to cancel our two soft opening events this week and will be delaying the opening to the public scheduled for November 20th. We are offering a takeout menu which will begin tomorrow, November 18th. The hours of operation will be 4PM to 8PM Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and Noon to 5PM on Sunday. The direct number to place your order is 231-585-6880. (Click here to view menu)

While we appreciate these are challenging times, please rest assured your team at Lakes of the North is working diligently to ensure we continue to provide you the best service possible.

Kind Regards,

Jeff Kohl

Lakes of the North & Friends supporting Wertz Warriors-Special Olympics

Lakes of the North has showed love and support for Wertz Warriors each year and you can continue to do so this year.

To all you wonderful fabulous Wertz Warrior supporters……. There is a change this year from our traditional Thanksgiving auction. We can still be thankful for what we have and continue to raise $$$$ for the Special Olympians.
This year starting Nov. 1st, items FOR SALE will be listed daily on this page. Depending on the amount of items, the page could run well into December.
**Each item will have a noted price. **The items will be posted at random times each day. **The first person to private message me (stating they want to buy the item) will be the buyer. **When the private message is received details will be given.
Details like:
1) address of where to send the check (made payable to the Wertz Warriors)
2) where the item will be able to be picked up (the location is near Northern Bear Country Store on C-42 just outside of Lakes of the North)
The pricing will be below market value. There may be duplicates of an item posted. The item will stay posted for a few days. Once purchased the item will be marked sold. Once it is paid for it will be taken off the page. If it is not purchased, it will be taken off and may return, at a later time at a reduced price.
If the item is edible (like Lloyd’s super cheesecake) you will be able to give a time period of when you will be in the area, so it will be made fresh.
We hope you will be able to have some fun with this and get some fantastic gift certificates, homemade & handmade goodies, Christmas gifts and fantastic finds.
Be safe, take care, stay healthy…….we want to see all of you at next years’ auction!!
P.S. Please help spread the word

[10/30/20]   We want to remind you that the clubhouse will close on 11-30-2020 and reopen on 12-18-2020. This is the time of year we do our annual maintenance on the pumps, pool surface and the facility in general.

[10/28/20]   Golf Course UPDATE:
All restrooms have now been shut down for the winter season. The clearing of the leaves is going much better than last year given the weather has permitted. Rob will no longer be in the pro shop as his winter travels begin. You can continue to reach him on his email at [email protected]. Thank you to everyone who supported our course this year making it one of our best.

Thank you for a great 2020 Golf Season!!!! We hope to see you next year.

Congratulations to the incoming board members.

Presented by Lakes Of The North Community Airport and Settings Restaurant.
This year we will have 2 routes, an ORV/ATV and a Automobile route.
Also this year we are using a computer generated program to deal your hands.

We suggest you do this to avoid any lines. We will still have registration in person the day of event as well. We can help you register online. Then you will be directed to the online poker program to deal your hands. No hands will allowed to be purchased after 4:30 pm. The event closes at 5 pm. The top 3 hands will be notified.
You do not need to ride or drive to buy hands.
Buy 1 hand for $10 or 5 hands for $40.

We hope everyone plays along and enjoys the day! Don't forget to stop by Settings Restaurant for a delicious meal.

What a beautiful morning in Lakes of the North! Colors have already started to pop and will make your hikes and golf game more enjoyable.

The Labor Day Fishing Derby was a blast! We had perfect weather for it. Skies were clear, temps were in the 60’s, and the wind was calm for the most part. Over 25 families participated in the event.

The biggest fish caught was a 15” bass by Bill Pinsak at 2lbs, and the runners up were the Wolack’s and their 14.5”, 2lb bass. Melody Rappley won the trophy for the greatest variety of fish, and Riley Jaeckle took the trophy for the most fish caught with 49 bluegill and a 10” bass! Peyton Goike also won a trophy for the biggest fish in the youth category with his 14”, 1.5lb bass!

Barb Peake won the fishing pole in the raffle giveaway, the Wolack family won a tackle box, Sean Pung & Stephanie Grainger won lure bins with a bunch of lures and fishing line. A fish stringer and fishing line was also raffled to Riley Jaeckle.

Some honorable mentions go to Liam Seifert and his 13.5” bass, Barb Peake and her sister Jo Ann Kalinin with their 18 bluegill (despite accidentally kicking the bucket over into the lake and dumping all the fish!), Nolan Laz with 5 Bluegill and a 6.5” bass, Rachel Rappley with her 7” perch, and Hunter Grainger with a 6” Bass. The Wolack’s brought back 6 bass over 10 inches!

Derby T-shirts were sold and given out as prizes, registration gift bags had a variety of hooks, sinkers, bobbers, lures, stickers and Swedish Fish Candies. Walt’s Crawlers and Jay’s Sporting Goods sponsored the event, making it possible for the Sportsmen’s Committee to put together these cool gift bags and provide free worms and crawlers to kids under 12. Special thanks go to the Lakes of the North staff, Sportsmen’s Committee volunteers, and everyone who participated in this first run event. We hope to do it again next year!!

Happy Friday & Labor Day Weekend to All!
It is my pleasure to share with you the new winter menu Chef Mark has developed for our dining pleasure. As we depart from our incredible summer menu and prepare for a slower season at Settings the new winter menu has many of your old favorites along with new menu attractions.
When the busy snowmobile season begins, Chef Mark is also working on a wonderful new “Tavern” style menu to allow expedited service in our extremely busy times. That menu will be introduced to you in the next few weeks.
Thank you, Chef for keeping our dining standard high during the upcoming season!

[09/02/20]   Due to a well issue, the Harold Lake Beach House is closed for the remainder of the day. The beach, play area and volleyball net can still be used while the building is closed.
