✨ The Benefits of Yoga in Schools ✨

Did you know that introducing yoga into schools can make a world of difference for kids? 🌟 Here are just a few reasons why:

🧘 Improves Focus & Concentration
Yoga helps kids tune out distractions and tune into their tasks, making it easier to stay focused in class.

💜 Reduces Test-Taking Anxiety
Deep breathing and mindfulness techniques give kids tools to stay calm and confident during high-pressure moments.

🎉 Releases Pent-Up Energy
From sitting still all day to the stress of a packed schedule, yoga provides a much-needed outlet for movement and self-expression.

🤝 Non-Competitive Physical Activity
Yoga creates a safe space where kids can move, grow, and explore without feeling the pressure to “win.”

Bringing yoga into schools isn’t just about the poses—it’s about giving kids the tools to thrive in every area of their lives! 🌈

Tag a teacher or school that would love to try this! 🙌

A question I’m often asked is, “What are simple, actionable ways for parents and children to practice yoga in daily life?” 🤔 It’s less about a one-hour class and more about living yoga off the mat. 🧘‍♀️💫

Yoga’s pillars—pranayama (breath), asana (poses), and meditation—can be woven into our everyday moments. 🌱 We can practice mindful breathing during stressful times, check in with our bodies and our senses, and stay aware of our thoughts. 🧠 Notice when the mind starts to wander or create untrue stories, and gently bring it back to the present. 🌸

Yoga isn’t just what we do on the mat; it’s how we live every day. 🙏

🌱 Educating the Whole Child with Yoga 🌱

The term “educating the whole child” goes beyond just academics—it’s about nurturing every aspect of a child’s development: mind, body, and emotions. This holistic approach recognizes that children are multi-dimensional beings who need support in all areas to thrive.

💡 How Yoga Educates the Whole Child 💡
Through yoga, we address:

🧠 Mental : Yoga helps children develop focus, discipline, and mindfulness, strengthening their cognitive abilities and problem-solving skills.
💪 Physical : By practicing asanas, children build strength, flexibility, and coordination, supporting their overall physical growth.
💖 Emotional : Yoga teaches self-regulation, emotional awareness, and resilience, empowering children to manage stress and connect with their feelings.

Yoga provides the tools to educate the whole child, creating a balanced foundation for lifelong health and well-being. 🌟

Going through old photos and found one from my very first Yogi Beans class (I’m blowing up a balloon to demonstrate the breath 🫧)

The second pic is from a class at Exhale Spa, back when things really started to take off. It’s wild to think some of these kids have already graduated college!

While the business has grown and I’m not teaching every week like I used to (at one point, it was 7 days a week (would not recommend 😅), I look back on those years with so much love. I still keep in touch with quite a few parents of the children I’ve taught. (As well as a few of the kids who are no longer kids!)

As the years have passed, my greatest hope is that something from those classes stayed with them- that they know they can always come back to their breath, to their bodies, and to yoga when life feels overwhelming. 💜🧡

🌟 Teaching toddlers yoga? Here are some fun ways to keep your littlest yogis engaged and excited! 🎉

✨ Play with contrast: Big movements vs. tiny ones, quiet vs. loud—it’s all about keeping them curious!
🌈 Use visual & tactile props: Think scarves, colorful balls, or even stuffed animals 🧸. Props make yoga hands-on and magical!
🎵 Incorporate music: Singing songs or playing rhythmic beats helps create a joyful atmosphere 🎶.
🧘‍♀️ Off the mat fun: Don’t stress if most of the yoga happens around the mat—exploration is part of the journey!

You know yoga helps kids yet when it comes to actually teaching it?

That’s where things can get messy…
Mixed ages. Meltdowns. Energy all over the place.

Whether you’re a teacher, parent, or educator you don’t need to be perfect. You just need a method that works and feels good to use.

🎶 Music & Movement in Kids Yoga 🎶

Music has an incredible ability to elevate the mood, transcend our feelings, and transport us to another place. Whether it’s a lively tune to energize the class or a soft melody to calm the mind, music enhances the yoga experience for kids (and adults!) alike.

In children’s yoga, the right music can:
✨ Uplift the energy during active poses.
✨ Encourage focus during mindfulness exercises.
✨ Relax the mind and body during savasana.
Here are some of our favorite artists to use in kids’ yoga classes. Each one brings something special to the practice, helping kids connect to their breath, bodies, and emotions through sound.

As we pour into others through our teaching, let’s not forget the golden rule: you can’t pour from an empty cup. 💛

Here are simple, industry-specific ways to nurture yourself:

✨ Maintain your practice: Stay tethered with asana, pranayama, or meditation—it keeps you grounded when life gets hectic.
✨ Take time off: One day completely free from teaching (ideally two!) is crucial for balance.
✨ Find community: Someone recently told me, “We don’t really have co-workers,” and I felt that. Surround yourself with like-minded souls who “get it.” 💬
✨ Laugh often: Kids remind us daily of the magic of humor and imagination. Lean into those moments—they’re soul medicine.

Which of these speaks to you? Drop your favorite self-care tips in the comments! ⬇️ Let’s grow together. 🌱
