This is one of those Ten Thousand Islands stories you’d never know just by looking at the shoreline… 👀

Years ago, a man from Tennessee built a group of dome homes off Cape Romano—designed to be elevated, solar-powered and completely self-sustained. Over time, erosion and hurricanes changed the coastline around them, eventually leaving the famous structures surrounded by water.

The Dome Homes may be gone now, but their story is still a pretty unforgettable piece of local history.

And that’s one of our favorite parts about exploring the Ten Thousand Islands—you’re not just seeing incredible scenery, you’re discovering the stories behind it 🌊

The Ten Thousand Islands have a story written into the landscape…

Throughout the islands, you may notice areas of standing dead mangroves like these. Powerful hurricanes and the storm surge, high winds, and prolonged flooding they bring can cause significant damage to mangrove forests.

But what makes this ecosystem so fascinating is its resilience. Over time, new growth can emerge as the landscape continues to adapt and recover.

It’s one of the many reminders that the Ten Thousand Islands are constantly changing—and every trip through them gives you a glimpse into their story 🌿

There’s a reason we take wildlife encounters seriously out here 🐬

As Kristen explains, dolphins are incredibly aware of what’s happening around them. They can see us, hear our voices, and they’re naturally social animals—which means they may choose to come closer to the boat on their own.

That’s why our job is to enjoy those moments responsibly and respectfully, always letting the wildlife decide how close they want to get.
