We all know what it means when a kid moves up to a bigger, faster bike. Bigger jumps, faster turns, faster races. But what most people don't see is what goes through a parent's head when their kid throws a leg over that newer, faster bike for the first time.
Can he handle it? Is it too much too soon? Should we have waited? Is he going to be okay?
All those thoughts run through your head, and then your kid takes off, pins it, and comes back with the biggest smile on his face, so excited and proud of what he just did.
And you're standing there somewhere between being incredibly proud and wondering if your heart is ever going to start beating normally again.
Watching Percy send that bike over jumps has my heart in my throat every single time. I'm so proud of him and love watching him push himself, but I don't think it matters how good they get or how confident they become. We're always going to be their parents, worrying about them every time they line up or hit a jump.
We want them to push their limits, chase their dreams, and see just how far they can go. We just have to learn to manage the nerves that come with watching them do it.
Every moto parent knows exactly what I'm talking about.
