As a follower of Christ, I have to remember to apply the gospel to ALL areas of my life. Including the areas I think I’ve mastered in my own strength.
I realized after years of striving, how much my body image was an idol in my heart. Something I heavily relied on for acceptance, approval, confidence, & identity. It’s not to say that God doesn’t care about our bodies or weight, he absolutely cares about what we care about and he wants to help us. And sometimes He simply wants to help us realize what’s more important in life. The condition of our hearts, knowing our worth and value, being free from the lies of the enemy (which is connected to our mental and physical health) being confident in His love for us, and loving and serving others well. 🫶🏻
He wants to help us get to the root of our insecurities. He cares more about healing our heart from the pain of rejection & fear of abandonment than just helping us lose 20lbs.
So during this postpartum journey to a healthier me- spirit, soul, AND body…
I have to try not to compare myself to the old Val. I’m a new creation in Christ. And with each baby I’ve given birth to, a new version of me has been born too 🌹
I have to kindly and gently ask myself- is my confidence found in things that will soon fade away or the ONE thing that lasts forever? 🤍🕊️

Well, here I am almost 14 months postpartum struggling to lose a pound and keep it off. Being a fitness trainer for 10 years and working with so many different clients-I can honestly say first hand- it’s not just about calories in, calories out.
There’s hormones, sleep, stress, thyroid, injuries, physical/emotional trauma, many different things at play. Sometimes, doing everything you did before to lose weight or stay in shape doesn’t work every time. It’s important we give ourselves grace during these harder seasons of life where so many things feel out of our control. And for believers, The Holy Spirit is here to help us, comfort us, and guide us through every challenging season so we never have to do it alone.
I plan to wean Brooklyn from nursing in the next few weeks. Will it be easier to lose weight after that? Maybe. Maybe not. But I know every uncomfortable situation is a chance to ask the Lord what he’s trying to show me and heal in me.
Over the past year, I’ve been trying to take the time to seek Him first and not just try to restrict and control like I have in the past.
Bodies change. And that’s okay 🤍
& let’s be real, taking care of kids 1, 4, and 7 most of the day ain’t easy. And the time and energy to take care of myself like I used to just isn’t there either. 7-8 hours of great sleep every night is way different than 4-6 hours of very broken sleep 🫠
Eating less and moving more when your body is already in fight or flight doesn’t quite bring the same results either 😆 it screams “hold onto everything you got, we are in danger!”
I know I don’t post on here much anymore, but I’ve had it on my heart to share a little more of my current postpartum journey after having my third baby. I feel like probably for the first time.. this one might be more relatable. And also because *vulnerability breaks shame*
So I hope that sharing a little bit will help someone else too 🫶🏻

my new workout buddy 😍 having her smiling up at me made it so much better!
Today was my first “official” workout in our little garage gym set up 💜💪🏼 I really haven’t worked out with weights in close to a year. I’m looking forward to getting strong again 🫶🏻
I did 3 sets of 20 with light weight:
-modified high knees
-wide squat front db raise
-one arm DB raise
-squat hold band rows
Then:
3 x 15 incline DB press
3 x 10 incline fly
3 x 8 reverse fly
It was a super random workout that I made up as I went 😂
Better than nothing, and glad I finally started 😅

I am almost done with my official Gut Health Specialist Certification 😍 I’ve created gut health nutrition plans for years, but after having my second baby and struggling with weight gain, bloating, anxiety, depression, joint pain, fatigue, digestive issues, etc. off and on over the past couple years I really wanted to learn more. I completed the course and did some of my own experimenting. Once I started speaking up more about my struggles here and there, I realized how many others are struggling too. That crazy + weird time between Christmas and New Years.. when everything is a mess, especially your mind.
Here is your reminder to speak up for yourself and what you need. Get out of the house, go for a walk, clean a space, organize, declutter, take a hot bath (or cold plunge 🤪) make a healthy meal, drink some hot tea, plan time to talk with a friend, read, do something you love.
And don’t forget to drink your water + electrolytes.
& take deep breaths.
You are enough. Right now as you are. You are loved, you are seen, you are known, and you are important! If God is for you, who can ever be against you?! 😍

I’ve deleted almost every fitness account on my feed lately. Delete, delete, delete 🙌🏼 Society and social media don’t get to tell me how I need to look. I’m not a project in need of fixing. There’s nothing wrong with me or my body and I’m grateful to live in a GOOD body that’s carried 2 beautiful, healthy babies and survived many traumas.
Thank you Jesus for healing + restoration and breaking off all the shame I’ve carried around in my body for too long. Thank you for deeper insight and revelation of the gospel- the truth- that I don’t have to perform for love or earn acceptance by trying to have the perfect body. I’m already loved and accepted by You, and YOU are enough for me, Jesus. I don’t have to live in shame or comparison in how my body looks or pride in how good it looks. Forgive me for all the years I idolized my body and worshipped it more than You 😭 Forgive me for looking to this cruel world and to people for acceptance instead of surrendering it ALL to You. My body is a temple in which your spirit lives and dwells. I’m thankful I get to show up now as the real ME because I’m already accepted. I no longer have to protect the brokenness in me by perfecting the outside, because you have healed me. I am free. Help me walk out my freedom each day and invite others on this freedom journey with me ☀️ I’m thankful I can follow your leading on how to care for my body and love my body in all seasons of life 🩷
