Hot take: if you’re a landowner who hunts, it’s your moral responsibility to let another hunter recover their deer on your property. Yeah, you’re not legally required to open the gate for anybody. But if you’re a hunter blocking someone from retrieving a deer they ethically shot… then you’re breaking the very code you claim to live by.

Legally, private property is private property. No argument there. But hunting has always had an unwritten rule: once an animal is hit, it deserves to be recovered and a hunter needs to do all he can to that. And if you’re a hunter standing in the way of that mission, you’re being unethical. I understand there can be reasons, but let’s be real: if your deer jumped the fence and died on a neighbor’s place, you’d want that same courtesy. It’s the closest thing we’ve got to a golden rule in the woods, treat other hunters the way you’d want to be treated.

So here’s the question: if a deer another hunter shot dies on your property do you let them recover it?

Nothing is cooler than your son wanting to continue the passion. My son and the pups are ready. With a school schedule he will be handling MAE as much as he possibly can. MAE definitely has the goods, but I will be mentoring Chase throughout the season on how to read the dogs behaviors.

ROBO-DEER! A hunter contacted our services to track his granddaughter's deer this morning. He called us again this evening, having successfully harvested a large deer in Charles County. At 38 yards, the deer attempted to duck away from the arrow. The hunter immediately recognized the shot and felt more secure calling us in again. There was no blood or arrow, leaving him perplexed. However, the arrow, as pictured, remained embedded in the deer's full length, with the Lumenock still illuminated. We waited briefly to ensure safety, then deployed the tracking dogs, achieving remarkable success for both the hunter and the dogs.

Congratulations to the hunter and one proud grandfather. Myself and Will Pape had the privilege of tracking this trophy in some of the thickest foliage in Charles County. The grandfather called us last night and going over the shot, it was agreed that it was most likely liver and gut. We left it up to the hunter to decide to risk pushing it, or wait until morning. Although it was a roll of the dice knowing coyotes were in the area. We held off and were able to recover it this morning.
