Even in the high heat, the beginners worked hard, and played hard, with a side of sprinkler.
To make sure your child is fully prepped for a game or practice in High Temperatures, consider these core safety principles:
Timing is Everything: Eat a balanced, larger meal at least 3 to 4 hours prior, and restrict heavy eating to avoid cramping or nausea in the heat.
Avoid Dairy and High-Fat: Heavy, fatty, and high-protein foods sit in the stomach longer. This draws blood away from muscles and the skin, which significantly increases the risk of overheating.
Hydration Starts Early: Have your child drink 8 to 10 ounces of water 30 minutes before they begin, and continue sipping every 15 to 20 minutes during play.
Electrolytes: If they are playing intensely for more than an hour, swap plain water for an electrolyte-replenishing drink or diluted juice.
