Sometimes it is best to take a look at the game with fresh eyes. There were alot of narratives going around during the game that the tape shows were false.
1. Micah was not being double teamed.
2. Mazi did not have a bad game. Cook had 25 runs for 170 or so yards. Almost 120 of those yards came on 9 plays. Of those 9 plays, Mazi was on the field for 3 of them. There is only 1 of those 3 plays where it can be said that Mazi got beat. The others he either re-directed the play or he was in position.

I pulled all of Cook's runs of over 7 yards and compiled them in the video below. You can see for yourself. The other 16 runs he had were 4 yards or less. Mazi was on the field for over half of those.

No surprise here. We have been talking about it for weeks. The way the eagles LBs looked yesterday, he should get instant playing time without knowing the playbook

There has been a lot of negative talk about Tony Pollard’s performance this year as a #1 back. Here are a few statistics that will show he is being very productive compared to his peers

1. He isn’t carrying the ball as much as RBs in years past, but he is currently #4 overall in total carries. He has more carries than RBs like Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, Joe Mixon, etc who fans consider “bellcow backs”

2. He is currently #6 in rushing yards in the NFL

3. People say he isn’t as explosive as years past, yet he is tied for 3rd for most rushes over 20 yards

4. People complain that he isn’t getting any 100 yard games. We are in week 13 of the season and the rb with the most 100 yard rushing games has only 4.

5. Last year we had 9 RBs with 5 or more 100 yard rushing games. This year we are on pace for 3-4. The 4th depends on whether or not Achane returns to the dolphins.

5. He is definitely lacking on rushing touchdowns. However you have to take into consideration the fact that his qb is averaging almost 3 passing touchdowns a game over the past 7 weeks.

I say all that to say this, don’t compare Pollard to RBs you saw pre-2020. We are beginning a completely new era of football. As much as the old school fans hate to admit it this is a pass first league. RBs are being de-valued and the stats are proving it. Pollard may not be having the season most fans expect, but statistically he is at the top among his peers.

This is not good news. We rarely have guys who leave and then come back and sign

Check out this screenshot from Micah's podcast. Anybody notice the jerseys hanging on the wall behind him 👀

Here is some insight into the business side of the nfl and how it may effect the Shaq Leonard situation:

Shaq Leonard was cut by his team. As a veteran, his contract was guaranteed for this year. Most contracts have offset language in them. That means, for example, if he is owed $5m for the rest of the year by the Colts, any team that signs him to a deal will offset the money the colts pay him. So if team A signs him the rest of the year for $1m he will get $1m from team A and $4m from the Colts. Whether he plays this year or sits out he will get paid his money.

The reason that is important is because no matter where he plays, his pay is the same for the year. That means his decision of which team to play for is solely on the best situation for him. Also it means that he is in no rush to make a decision.

He wants to sign another top contract next year. Anyone who signs him this year will have a minimal cap effect (probably vet minimum). When fans talk about “how does team ______ have the cap space to sign him” that is irrelevant at this point. Leonard’s choice will be based on the team that gives him the best chance to showcase his talents for the next 6-10 weeks to try to cash in again this offseason. Whomever signs him is getting him for a rental/audition.

Looks like we get to see Juanyeh Thomas and Izzy tonight

For those of you who missed last night's episode of The 5th Quarter Podcast, we had some very spirited discussions. One of them stemmed from our question of the day.

Most of us expect for this week's game against the Giants to be put away early. The question of the day was, do we make Trey Lance active for the first time this year and allow him to play a quarter if we are up big late in the game? The chat was split on this topic last night. What do you say?
