Most of you have heard about our schedule change this coming year where Fayetteville Ark replaces South Panola. This came about because the Alabama state association changed their starting date leaving South Panola with games against us and Hoover on the same day. So the opportunity to play Fayetteville at Razorback Stadium came at a good time and allowed us to also help out our friends in Batesville....
Our football team has a long history of outstanding leadership by our seniors. We believe all of the seniors must assume a leadership role for our team to be at it& #039;s best so in a since all of them are captains but it is also important that a smaller group be selected that can conduct the business necessary for a successful team....
Tyler Horn class of 07 will represent the both "U& #039;s" this weekend as he competes in the nation& #039;s longest running collegiate all-star football game. Tyler has had an outstanding career at the University of Miami and earned post-season honors as 2nd team ACC this season. The East-West Shrine Classic has been running since 1925 and has seen many of it& #039;s participants move on to the NFL....
We will start our spring physical development workouts on Monday, January 9. These workouts are each weekday after school from 3:30 to 4:45. All boys not in a fall or spring sport need to attend each day. This takes the place of the boys daily PE class so attendance is mandatory....

We have added a few things this year and also changed the format around a little. One of the additions is called Opponent Series History where you can go game by game and see the results vs a particular opponent....
Last night was a fun evening as we put a wrap on the 2011 football season. A special thanks to Trey Jordan, class of 1982, for providing the evening meal. Also thanks to Barry Ray for being our emcee, Mr. Haguewood for his support even as sick as he was, and Beth Taylor for pulling it all together.

We will have a brief meeting today to get all of the equipment picked up and the locker room cleaned. This should take no more than an hour. For those boys moving on to another sport after today they need to check with those coaches. The boys that are remaining in football need to rest up and focus on school work until after exams.
Congratulations to Ensworth for a well played game on Friday. They took advantage of their opportunities and made the plays both offensively and defensively that they needed. In a season where we have had the task of playing against many very good running backs I think I can safely say that Corn Elder is the best we saw this year....
In many ways it seems such a short time ago we were preparing for our opening game of the season with Ensworth knowing they would have a great team and would provide us a strong test. That they did. Now almost 3 months later we meet again in the state semi-finals....
Our team played very well the past Friday against a McCallie team that also played very well. Our ability to make some big plays on offense and to limit those big plays by McCallie especially in the running game was the key to victory in my opinion. As we said in the game preview McCallie was the top rushing team in our league and we held them to 124 yards for...
Our Quarter-final game with McCallie promises to be a very tough contest for us. McCallie& #039;s record of 5-5 is very deceiving. They were ahead of Ensworth going into the 4th quarter, had a chance to beat Baylor on the last play and missed a last second FG to beat MBA....
The McCallie Blue Tornado advanced with a 24-17 victory over BGA and will be our opponent next Friday at MUS with a 7:00pm kick-off. We will have a regular practice on Monday going until 5:30. Tuesday and Wednesday will follow our normal schedules as will Thursday. More info on McCallie and the match-up to come later in the week but all games are tough in the play-offs and we know McCallie...
If you have not yet seen this in the paper here is a copy of the football play-off bracket. This year there is a slight change in the bracket on who the #1 seed from the west (us) plays in the quarter-final round.

Over the years I believe we have found a play-off routine that works for us. Below is a copy of the post we have posted before.

As we start the play-offs it is important that we separate what has been accomplished in the regular season to what lies ahead. The regular season is more like a marathon....
With the 26-10 victory over Briarcrest last Friday we were able to finish the regular season with a 7-3 record going 3-0 in our region. Not sure anyone but our team believed in us when we were 2-3 but this group has hung in there and found ways to win....
The 8th grade team this year finished with an undefeated season after beating Briarcrest this past Tuesday. Coach Wade had the following comments about this year& #039;s group.
"The 2011 8th grade owls finished the season undefeated (8-0), and more importantly we had fun and got better. This group is very talented....
Our 7th grade team had to overcome many obstacles during the season but we were proud of them for their courage and tenacity. The team finishes with a 1 - 6 record that is somewhat misleading.

First let me say that next week is a very important week of practice. We must remain focused, sharp in our ex*****on, and keep our fitness level high. We will spend some time next week testing the guys in some physical areas as well as reviewing a lot of our fundamentals....
The team travels to Briarcrest this week for our final regular season game. Game time is 7:00pm. I have often referred to the regular season as a marathon and the play-offs to a sprint but we could also say this year the regular season has been a 10 round boxing match....
This game was every bit as tough as we expected. White Station had played good defense the entire season and certainly battled us giving us some problems with their quickness and speed. Thanks to the continued stellar play of our defense we were able to weather a tough first half and finally got some things going as we went back to our spread offense....
The Spartans of White Station visit MUS tomorrow evening for a match-up between 2 teams gearing up for the play-offs. With the victory last week over SBA we were able to secure 1st place in our region for the season. White Station has a little tougher road to make sure they are in the play-offs but have certainly shown for most of the year they are ready....
The team earned a hard fought victory over SBA Friday night 35-0. SBA has improved a lot over the last couple of years and certainly when you have a player the quality of Jordan WIlkens you always have a chance. I thought we looked a little rusty at first but the defense always stiffened when SBA made a little progress or when we turned it over early....
We met with the boys this morning to outline where we go from here now that their game schedule has concluded. If you have questions about what follows please do not hesitate to call.

The week began with the 7th grade team facing a tough St. Louis 7/8 grade squad. While we were mismatched against the 8th graders our guys kept battling and as St. Louis played their younger guys we played pretty even and showed some s***k. Final score was 44-16.
On Wednesday the 8th grade team continued their winning ways with an impressive victory over Colonial....
