I thought I posted something yesterday but I don't see it. I will try again, thanks to all who participated in the membership drive of KYDU Christmas in July program. Congrats to the winners! Maddie is 10 months old . Doing 150 yard land marks, 100 yards on water. She is very good on her obedience as you can see, steady and training to hunt as well as hunt tests. GREAT Outdoors NEWS!

Kentucky Fish & Wildlife partnered with Kentucky Ducks Unlimited and the 5th District Federation of the League of Kentucky Sportsmen to develop a 10-acre moist-soil management unit on the Boone Tract of Kentucky River WMA. This part of central Kentucky has few existing shallow wetland areas for waterfowl to forage and rest. The new habitat will provide added opportunity for waterfowl to recharge their energy reserves during fall and spring migrations. It will also enhance public hunting opportunities in the region. Our Engineering Division worked closely with Ducks Unlimited staff to design and develop this new habitat feature in order to maximize benefits to waterfowl.

Our staff are committed to serving people and conserving fish and wildlife, and providing outstanding opportunities for hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife watching, recreational shooting and related outdoor activities. Up to Date Conservation Report:

- Big River Pump Station- design is progressing. Site clearing will take place sometime during the next six months while endangered bats are not present; probably sooner than later.

- Geotechnical drilling / soils investigations was completed last month for the Shelby Lake and Butler Lake structures. This information is required to know what kind of foundation needs to be installed below the structures to support their weight. *See Picture Below*

- The Duncan Units well plans have been sealed and delivered to KDFWR. I’m told the Duncan Units dirt work plans are at or very near completion, but I haven’t seen them yet.

John Brunjes Comments:

As you know….it is super dry. We are struggling to provide the necessary water for the season. At Ballard, the current big pump inlet is >5 feet above the surface of the Ohio River. It will take a major rain event to change that. Also, with the river so low, groundwater levels are very low which means other pumps that we are able to run are fighting a ground that just sucks water down. Ballard is significantly drier than normal.

Doug Travis WMA is about normal with all pumps running wide open for an extended period. Sloughs turned on all their pumps today and expect to have a majority of their normal water by hunting season.
