From First banking to High school cards.
As a parent of a teenager, I'm always looking for ways to help my child develop financial responsibility and independence. That's why I was excited to learn about Chase's banking options for teens and younger children. Here's what I found:
⠀
1. Chase First Banking: Designed for kids aged 6-17, this account is an excellent tool for younger children to learn about managing money.
It's available for Chase checking customers and comes with a $0 monthly service fee. The account is owned by the parent or guardian, providing a layer of oversight while giving kids a sense of autonomy with their finances
⠀
2. Chase High School Checking:
Tailored for teens between 13-17 years old, this checking account requires a parent or guardian as a co-owner.
There's no monthly service fee, which is a big plus.
To open an account, both the parent/guardian and the teen must be present at a Chase branch.
It's a great way for teens to get hands-on experience with banking while still under parental guidance
Regarding banking trends among teens in the USA, a 2019 survey by Junior Achievement found that 34% of American teenagers don't have bank accounts and predominantly use cash.
Interestingly, while a significant number of teens (48%) use mobile or online apps for money management, nearly one in five (17%) have never been in a physical bank.
⠀
This statistic highlights the growing importance of digital banking for the younger generation.
⠀
The process of opening a Chase account for your child is straightforward but requires some planning.
⠀
✅ For Chase First Banking, you need to be an existing Chase checking customer.
✅ For the High School Checking account, you and your teen must visit a Chase branch together.
This can be an educational experience for your teen, offering them a first-hand look at banking procedures.
⠀
As a parent, I find these accounts to be a great educational tool. They not only provide practical banking experience but also help inculcate financial responsibility from a young age.
Today we switched First banking account to High school account for my son which gives them more tools and such options like Zelle and Apple Pay so popular in 2023 among us. 😉
P.S. Do your kids have bank accounts and at what age did you open them?
