During a recent client meeting, the question was posed, "Is my mother too old to begin lifting weights?"

My response was simple - "She'll never be younger than she is right now."

As we age, it can become increasingly challenging to learn new things or implement positive changes in our lives.

We tend to become fixed in our ways and believe that we cannot change or improve.

However, believing that we can't teach an old dog new tricks is fundamentally wrong.

Challenging ourselves and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones is key to keeping our brains young and can even help us stave off cognitive illnesses such as dementia and Alzheimer's.

The real key to staying young is to embrace discomfort and push ourselves into the unfamiliar, no matter our age. This means developing new habits, learning new skills, and striving to extract every ounce of potential that we have.

Our limitations are not defined by our age but by our perception of what our age signifies.

So, the next time we hear ourselves saying that we are too old for something, let's stop ourselves.

Instead, we should confront these assumptions and tackle whatever we feel "too old" to do. The process of pushing ourselves to learn and try new things will help us realize that age is just a number, and what matters most is how we perceive it.

Mindset trumps almost everything when it comes to losing weight and getting in shape.

Mindset and clarity.

It all starts in your head. The decision, the commitment, the desire, the action plan. You can't execute on something unless you have the vision for it.

Second is the clarity. Clarity to filter through all the BS information out there and find a sustainable plan that fits YOUR lifestyle and follow it. Clarity to understand that it's okay to ask for help and seek a professional to assist you on that journey.

As men we try to do it all ourselves. We are ashamed of asking for help. That shouldn't be the case.

If we all decide to work together and leverage our strengths and have others cover for our weakness, we'd be a thriving society.

I never want to look back on my life and wish I had taken better care of my health.

I know what it feels like to be ridiculously out of shape. I was living that in my teens.

I was too lazy and unmotivated to do anything other than play video games and drink coke all day. I would wake up with a headache and dehydrated body even though I didn't drink alcohol. I would be embarrassed about my body any time I had to take my shirt off.

I was headed nowhere fast.

Now I'm 31 and it's a lot different.

I'm working out 4x a week, walking every day, putting nutritious foods in my body, and have fixed my sleeping habits.

I'm feeling better in my 30's than I ever did in my 20's or teens and I'm still getting better.

Life is both long and short. Don't make it worse by letting yourself get out of shape.

You never want to look back when you're 50/60 or even 70 years old and wonder, "What if?"

You want to look back with pride that you did everything you could to take care of your body.

Amy loves chocolate. She likes chips and pizza too.

What's easy on the short term is hard long term. You don't want that.
