ETA- These are prices from the York Co. Pa area. And the price per gallon of diesel listed is for bulk off road usage. It is not the price for ‘on road’ usage ( which is much higher)

From one of my hay suppliers. I think keeping things transparent between the supplier and consumer is paramount.

Are you as a boarder at a facility prepared for possible board increases? Are you as a boarder understanding in that the barn owner/ manager cannot absorb the increases handed to them to keep your horse fed?

I feel that these are real questions that boarders and barn owner/ manager need to have.

Anyone interested in helping out with tick research?? Nasty little buggers!!

Penn State Extension is looking to engage fifty horse owners in a community research project on tick control at horse farms. Horse owners that choose to participate will be asked to attend an informational session via Zoom, conduct a 5 to 10-minute tick check on their horse(s) twice a week for 7 weeks, report their local findings, and fill out a 10-minute survey explaining current tick management practices on their farm.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the form at the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/hwTWUDeZYb

The deadline for registration is March 15, 2022. The project will begin April 2022 and end June 2022. For more information or questions visit: https://extension.psu.edu/equine-assistance-needed-for-tick-control-research-study.

Ribbons are lovely mementos and symbols, but be careful... when you allow ribbons to tell you if you have done a good job, then their absence will try to tell you that it was bad. And that is never the whole story.

Although one mistake can deny you a ribbon, one mistake cannot negate the positive growth, teamwork and joy that exists in every single ride. Always carry your own goals and progress closest to your heart. 💙💗💙

As we continue to monitor the neurologic form of equine herpesvirus infection (EHM) in Florida, let's take this opportunity to discuss once more the importance of biosecurity measures to stop disease spread. We recommend the following biosecurity precautions for horse owners, particularly if their horses have recently traveled to horse shows or were exposed to horses that have traveled:

1) Monitor horses for clinical signs (like fever, diarrhea, discharge from the nostrils, coughing, or an increased respiratory rate) and take the temperature twice daily (anything greater than 101.5 is considered a fever).

2) Immediately isolate any horse(s) showing clinical signs.

3) Implement movement restrictions until the situation is evaluated.

4) Contact your veterinarian to evaluate your horse and to propose a comprehensive biosecurity protocol.

5) Increase biosecurity measures that include extensive disinfection of surfaces and equipment that come in contact with affected horses: wash or sanitize your hands between interacting with horses; take time while filling water buckets and feed tubs, do not cross contaminate; minimize the use of shared equipment and tack.

6) Make sure your horse is up to date on vaccinations.

7) Establish communication with all parties involved (owners, boarders, trainers, etc.).

More resources and information about biosecurity are available on the Equine Disease Communication Center's website at https://equinediseasecc.org/biosecurity
