➡️bell boots that are too small
➡️bell boots that are too big
➡️polo wraps having the audacity to exist within my perception
➡️shaped girths on backwards
➡️letting the horse stop at the water bucket every. single. lap.

Saddle fit and bit fit are two of the most influential things when it comes to a horse working well for you!

Just because your horse does his job doesn’t mean he’s not in pain. There are plenty of top level athletes performing in saddles that pinch the withers, float off the horse’s back, slide during ridden work, and more. Many of these horses still work hard for their riders with little to no complaint. This is sad to me-we owe it to our horses to set them up for wins. Those wins may be celebrated with ribbons, or they may be celebrated by longevity, good stretches, and healthy toplines. Regardless of your end goal, your horse deserves to feel his best.

Your horse can’t advocate for himself, so it’s our job to provide him with the best possible situation for success. Routine saddle fit checks will not only help your horse to perform his best, but will help to prepare his body for the future by developing healthy musculature and supporting him as he grows older. Just like with people, the fitter we can keep our bodies, the stronger we are long term!
