Today's severe weather setup is one with higher than usual uncertainty in timing/location, but the potential to ramp up quite quickly. Make sure you have a sheltering plan in place and are monitoring the weather this afternoon and evening.

🔥 The IAWF is proud to announce that Deputy Chief Drew Daily is the 2026 IAWF International Wildland Fire Safety Award recipient.
Drew was presented the award via Zoom by IAWF Board President Trevor Howard at the 2026 International Smoke Symposium in Tallahassee, Florida.
On March 14, 2025, Oklahoma faced one of the most devastating wildland fire outbreaks in recent history: 135 fires, 200,000+ acres, 515 homes lost. Yet Drew's years of preparation made all the difference.
Through his pioneering work embedding NWS meteorologists directly into fire operations, his team enabled real-time satellite fire detection, rapid spread modeling, and geotargeted fire warnings that reached responders and the public when seconds mattered most.
The results? 🏡 42,000 structures saved. 💰 ~$1.6B in property protected. Zero wildland firefighter fatalities.
Six days of advance warning allowed task forces from 5 states and 2 CL415 Super Scoopers to preposition before the fires even started.
Drew's contributions go far beyond a single event — he's co-authored 12+ peer-reviewed publications, helped develop the IWT fire warning paradigm now influencing national practice, and spent years building the science that saves lives.
This is what leadership in wildland fire safety looks like. Congratulations, Deputy Chief Daily. 👏
