Guts To Try Update:
We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2025 Guts To Try 8M, 25K, & Backyard Ultra at Adventures Unlimited due to lack of registered participants. All those registered have been contacted and will be refunded their entry fee if they choose. I’ll admit to dropping the ball when it came to marketing the new event, as my focus was on other projects. The future of this event is undecided. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions at all.

Only 6 months remain to get trained up for the challenge of a lifetime!
Do you have The Guts To Try??
We are so excited to host you all for our new Guts To Try races this February in the beautiful Florida Panhandle, benefiting the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. It is hard to believe it is only 6 months away, but if you start now you still have plenty of time to train for any distance.
Our backyard ultra event has been awarded Bronze Level status- meaning the winner of this event will get an automatic entry into a silver level event, and they will be one step closer to competing in Big Dog's Backyard World Championships! If you are not familiar with the backyard ultra format or its history, you can read all about it here.
Not only is this a great event for ultra veterans to push their limits, it is also prefect for anyone to reach their goals due to the required consistent pacing. For example 7 laps/hrs puts you over marathon distance, 8 laps/hrs for 50K+, 12 laps/hrs for 50 miles, and 24 laps/hrs for 100 miles. With access to your gear and aid every hour it is easy to do alone or with a crew. I'll be out there personally trying to get my first 100 miles in 24hrs and would welcome your company!
As a unique feature of our event we will have team scoring and there will be awards for the top scoring team overall and the top military team. So get your friends, military unit, or colleagues together for a day on the trails! Teams may consist of 3, 4, or 5 runners of any gender. Only the distances of the top 3 runners will count toward the final team miles. The teams with the most miles at the end of the event will be declared the winners.
Thank you!

We are thrilled to be awarded Bronze event status for our 2025 event. Winning a Bronze Ticket secures the athlete a starting place in a Silver Ticket Event, the first step in qualifying for The Backyard World Championships!

Good luck to these Gold Star kids!
Spent the last couple of days tweaking the 4 mile 880ft course for the February race. We concentrated on having a course that is as flat and non-technical as possible. Although we had to use a few areas on the second half with some roots, the course is otherwise relatively smooth (for a forest trail) and easy. It does use some portions of the old Bear Bait trail, especially on the second half, but the first half will be a combination of road and other trails. It has been measured with a calibrated wheel due to the errors in gps reception in the forest. We will release a KML file of the route once we finalize it.

Thank you for having The Guts To Try!
44TH ANNIVERSARY 🙏 Today marks the 44th anniversary of Operation Eagle Claw – the courageous attempt to rescue 52 Americans held hostage in Tehran, Iran. On this day, five Airmen and three Marines made the ultimate sacrifice, leaving behind 17 children.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, an enduring battlefield promise was made by the surviving service members to provide full education opportunities to the surviving children of those lost in the line of duty, then and in the future. Hence, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation was born.
Since that "Battlefield Promise," SOWF has continuously grown, thanks to the generous backing of private donors, corporations, third-party event organizers, external grants, our committed Board of Directors, Ambassadors, and supporters. Their collective support has enabled significant growth in our programs and services, for which we are profoundly grateful.
We invite you to learn more about how you can make a difference in the lives of surviving children, surviving spouses, and the families we serve. With your involvement, we can continue to “Honor The Legacy Of America’s Finest,” . For additional background information and to donate, please visit www.specialops.org.
