Exciting news! The Res family is growing!🍼🧸
Director Lynnea and her husband Eli will be welcoming their second child into the world any day! We’re excited to have this little guy grow and learn here at The Res! Lynnea will be on maternity leave until sometime later this summer; however, we don’t have an exact date of her return quite yet.
In addition to this, please help us welcome Carla Castro-Palomo! Carla will be leading all administrative correspondence and duties for the summer. She is a Mishawaka native and is excited to help lead The Res!☀️🗂️
Please be patient with us as we go through this exciting time of transition! Our contact info is the same!

Director Lynnea had so much fun teaching the 1st-3rd graders! They asked great questions about native and non-native plants.

Enviro Day: LaVille 5th graders edition!
We hosted about 100 students from the LaVille Schools for a day of learning, exploring, and fun. We learned about pollinators and macro-invertebrates with theSt. Joseph County Soil & Water Conservation District, native plants with Wild Ones South Bend, and the teachers planned a fun game for the kids to pretend to be deer and find shelter and food! 🪱🌷🐝
We even found (but did not disturb) a beautiful Luna Moth. Once Luna moths reach adulthood they only live for about a week or so, since they do not have mouths to eat! It is a rare treat to find one. 🐛

What a turnout for the inaugural Toddler Trail Trek! 🥾🌱
We made a big loop around the property, played with rocks and sticks, and then ended with frolicking in the meadow. A swan made an appearance as well!
Join us next month on June 3rd for another trail trek! ☀️

What a busy Saturday at The Res this past weekend! ☀️
Trinity Church packed a punch with this tiny but mighty crew! We pulled nothing but garlic mustard for 3 hours! This group pulled garlic mustard last year and it was encouraging to see how much less of the plant we had in the areas we worked!
Board member Mike and Vice President Janet worked to re-landscaping up by the lodge! It looks fantastic! 🌷🌱
And finally, after quite a few setbacks, the Tri-Kappa nature center has insulation! It will be much warmer this coming fall/winter for groups using the space! Shoutout to O’Neill Home Services for getting this done!❄️

Another year, another amazing Enviro Days!
On Wednesday and Friday this week we welcomed a total of 172 students from 4 different schools to learn about beekeeping, macro-invertebrates, mosquitoes, recycling, wildlife conservation, and the history of The Res. 📚🐝🐒🦟♻️🪱
Ginormous thank you to the 7 volunteer chaperones who led the classes from place to place and especially to our presenters from St. Joseph County Soil & Water Conservation District, Solid Waste District of St Joseph County, Potowotami Zoo, St. Joseph County Department of Health, and board member Maggie (our beekeeper!) for spending your days with us and sharing your vast knowledge!
Until next year! 🌱
