These are my 3 favorite mental books regarding baseball and softball training. They will actually work for any sport. Just finished the 90% Mental book by Bob Tewksbury. He refers to H. A. Dorfman quite a bit. The mental game is SO important! I’d suggest starting with The Mental Keys to Hitting (quick and easy read), then move on to 90% Mental and then read The Mental Game of Baseball. Players, give yourself the best Christmas gift you can give yourself and start reading one of these books over break. When spring comes along you’ll be glad you did!!!

If your son or daughter loves baseball or softball but isn’t hitting the ball as well as they would like maybe it’s time to look at their swing mechanics, timing, and approach. My specialty is helping 8 to 22 year old baseball and softball players improve their performance in the batters box. We look at all aspects of the swing process as well as the proper mental approach to hitting. These photos are of my son who was a 4 year starter as catcher and DH at Shippensburg University, a Division 2 school in PA. The first one is as a 10 year old, typical arm bar, long, loopy swing for a player his age. The second is from his last year in college. We worked very hard to get his swing to that point but it paid off. He went from hitting 5 home runs his junior year to 13 this year and hit .310 as well. He was named PSAC second team all conference and Academic All American first team meaning there was only one Division 2 catcher in the country to receive that honor. My daughter played D2 softball at Catawba College and we’ve worked hard on her swing as well. It paid off, her senior year she was SAC All Conference first team, All Southeast Region first team, and Academic All American second team.
