Cross Country 2021 Season is in Full Swing

The season is in full swing and it feels so good for our athletes to be out competing with others. A recap of the past few weeks as we are slowly entering Zone Championships on October 26th at Jericho Park is as follows:

Festival of Cross Country, South Surrey, October 2

Four athletes competed at the Festival of Cross Country and they all had strong finishes.

9 year old Darren Pang competed with his school and finished 10th in 1.5km with the time 7:05:40. As a sprinter Darren did a great run with a strong finish.

In the 12 years old boys category, Brendan Anderson ran a strong race from the start and finished 7th with the time of 12:14.60. This result is a new PR of 43 sec. from his first race at Vancouver Spirit Run on Sept.26.

In the same race, Sky Bell-Parson had a solid run and finished 9th with the time 12:36.80, a PR of 49.5sec. from his first race at Vancouver Spirit Run on Sept.26.

U-18 Athlete, Tilda Cressman, ran for the first time at open 6km race with the time of 26:19.51

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE MEETS

October 5, 2021

October 5 was the date of the 2nd League Meets for our High School Athletes. Allison Torrance (Point Grey HS) participated in the Killarney Invitational and placed 2nd in her grade and 6th overall for Junior Girls.

At Jericho, the Independent School Association held their ISA Championships and Cole Timko (WPGA) ran 3.8km in the Junior Boys placing 1st with a time of 12:27. In the Senior Boys, athlete Liam Dachner (WPGA) ran 4.2km and placed 1st with a time of 14:24.

October 12, 2021

On October 12th, League Meet 3 was held at Quilchena Park and Allison Torrance placed 6th in her grade and 13th overall with a time of 20:02.05. At Jericho, Cole Timko ran the Junior Boys 4.5km and placed 1st with a time of 15:51 while Liam Dachner placed 1st in the Senior Boys.

ALUMNI X-COUNTRY RUNNING STATS

On October 9 at the TWU XC Open in Abbotsford, BC, our alumnus, Thomas Nobbs (UBC Thunderbirds) , ran an 8K race and won his second consecutive Canada West Individual Race. Meanwhile VOC Alumnus Athlete Dylan Uhrich (UBC Thunderbirds) completed the 8K with a time of 25:10 which secured a spot at the upcoming CanWest Regionals.

Meanwhile in the US, VOC Alumna Ceili McCabe is tearing up the X-Country circuit. On October 2 at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, Ceili ran the E.P. Tom Sawyer 5K Course where she broke West Virginia University’s School Record that was set in 2014 (set by Jillian Forsey 16:58.7) with a time of 16:27.8. Then on Friday, October 15, she competed at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitiational running and winning the 6K Women’s course with a time of 19:57.

After redshirting her athletic season last year, VOC Alumna Kendra Lewis has begun the 2021 X-Country season and has performed strongly in competition.

On September 17, Kendra Lewis ran her first X-Country race with Villanova University team at Main Line Invitational in Haverford, PA, finishing 5th in the 5km with a time of 17.03.1

On October,15, Kendra ran the Women's 6K course at the Nuttycombe Invitational with the time of 21:31.4, securing fourth positions with Villanova.
