🏈 GAMBIT SPORTS INTELLIGENCE — MIDWEEK FOOTBALL UPDATE
Wednesday, October 14, 2026

New rankings, a major NFL trade, and injury questions that could reshape this weekend’s games. Here’s what GSI followers need to know.

🔥 POWER 4: GEORGIA TAKES OVER NO. 1

Georgia’s 20–17 victory at Alabama puts the Bulldogs atop the latest AP poll. Texas falls from No. 1 to No. 7 after Oklahoma’s 27–24 upset.

The national AP top 10:

1. Georgia
2. Notre Dame\*
3. Miami
4. Ohio State
5. Indiana
6. Alabama
7. Texas
8. BYU
9. Ole Miss
10. Texas Tech

\*Notre Dame is an independent, included for the national picture and its showdown with BYU.

These are AP rankings—not College Football Playoff committee rankings.

📈 WHO’S MOVING?

• SEC: Kentucky enters at No. 15 after beating LSU in overtime. LSU falls to No. 22.
• Big Ten: UCLA jumps to No. 12 after beating Oregon. Iowa reaches No. 17, Northwestern enters at No. 25, and Oregon drops out. Wisconsin remains outside the poll but received votes.
• Big 12: BYU, Texas Tech and Utah give the conference three teams in the top 11. Oklahoma State sits at No. 18 and Houston at No. 20.
• ACC: Miami leads at No. 3. Wake Forest enters at No. 21, SMU is No. 24, and Pittsburgh drops out.

🚑 COLLEGE INJURY WATCH

ALABAMA: Leading receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams is doubtful against Tennessee with concussion and knee concerns. His absence would change the receiving workload around quarterback Keelon Russell.

TENNESSEE: Faizon Brandon’s practice work has increased following his shoulder injury, but the starting decision between Brandon and George MacIntyre remains unsettled.

OHIO STATE: Ryan Day expects most of six absent starters back against Indiana. Phillip Daniels is expected to return, while Austin Siereveld’s status following illness remains a concern. Protection up front could be decisive.

PITTSBURGH: Mason Heintschel is out for the season with a torn ACL. Holden Geriner takes over at quarterback.

MIAMI: Mario Cristobal says Marquise Lightfoot, Xavier Lucas, Ezekiel Marcelin Jr. and Damari Brown are back. Starting right guard Max Buchanan remains out.

BYU: LJ Martin’s lower-leg injury remains a major backfield concern. Sione Moa has a chance to return against Notre Dame.

GEORGIA: Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens missed the Alabama game. Their availability remains worth watching before Auburn.

👀 THREE COLLEGE MATCHUPS TO WATCH

• No. 4 Ohio State at No. 5 Indiana
• No. 2 Notre Dame at No. 8 BYU
• No. 6 Alabama at No. 14 Tennessee

Rankings tell part of the story. Quarterback availability, offensive-line health and backfield depth could tell the rest.

🏈 NFL: THE WEEK 6 POWER PICTURE

NFL.com’s Nick Shook ranks the top 10:

1. 49ers
2. Chiefs
3. Seahawks
4. Ravens
5. Jaguars
6. Bills
7. Vikings
8. Broncos
9. Bengals
10. Patriots

Minnesota jumps four spots and New England climbs eight. These are editorial power rankings, separate from league standings.

🔄 MAJOR TRADE: MARVIN HARRISON JR. TO HOUSTON

The trade is official.

Houston receives:
• WR Marvin Harrison Jr.
• A 2027 sixth-round pick

Arizona receives:
• A 2027 second-round pick
• A 2027 seventh-round pick

That adds a significant receiving option for C.J. Stroud. How quickly Harrison earns a full role is the next question.

🚑 NFL INJURY AND RETURN WATCH

PACKERS: Javon Hargrave’s torn Achilles ends his season. Micah Parsons was not yet ready to resume practice in the latest update checked.

BEARS: Caleb Williams is scheduled for full participation in Wednesday’s walkthrough following his hamstring injury.

FALCONS: Michael Penix Jr. is expected to start against Chicago if his rib recovery stays on course.

RAVENS: Lamar Jackson’s Week 6 availability remains uncertain following his ankle injury. Rookie receiver Ja’Kobi Lane is returning to practice after wrist surgery.

PATRIOTS: TreVeyon Henderson is expected to miss multiple weeks with a high ankle sprain. Will Campbell is also expected to miss time with an MCL sprain. A.J. Brown’s return-to-practice window is opening, and Christian Gonzalez is expected back at practice.

49ERS: Deebo Samuel is expected to miss time with a hamstring injury.

TEXANS: David Montgomery’s groin injury and Jalen Pitre’s shoulder injury remain week-to-week concerns. Tackle Braden Smith has been activated from injured reserve.

BRONCOS: Talanoa Hufanga is expected to miss multiple weeks with an ankle injury.

VIKINGS: T.J. Hockenson suffered a concussion Sunday; clearance remains something to monitor.

JAGUARS: Anton Harrison faces knee surgery, with his recovery timeline dependent on the damage found. Walker Little steps in at left tackle.

BROWNS: Dylan Sampson’s return-to-practice window has opened.

JETS: Omar Cooper Jr. is returning to practice. Adonai Mitchell remains week to week after a hand procedure.

📋 ROSTER MOVES AND SUSPENSIONS

• Rams: Released kicker Harrison Mevis and signed Blake Grupe from the Jets’ practice squad.
• Rams: Alaric Jackson received a two-game suspension, with an appeal planned.
• Bears: Montez Sweat received a two-game PED suspension, affecting the Atlanta and New England games.

Returning to practice does not automatically mean cleared to play. Wednesday reports are still developing, and final game designations can change the picture.
