Pool Shutdown 2026 Day 10: Refill day! A 2nd coat was also added to the hot tub to make it look extra fresh!

Did you know?: Chlorine isn't the only chemical used in pools. We also have to control the pH by using CO2 and soda ash, control the alkalinity by using Muriatic acid and baking soda, and control the calcium hardness by using calcium chloride. Our Aquatics Director is basically a chemist! 🤓🧪👨‍🔬

Our first week
Of basket collections brought in 22 baskets!
We are off to a tremendous start but have a long way to go!
Could you please help us and make a basket?
Anything your heart desires! We need a TON of them!
This is how we fund LiveSTRONG at the Y!
We already have 2 classes geared up to start days following our COUNTRY STRONG: A day for LiveSTRONG @ Herman & Luther’s
Did you know?
✅We run an am/pm class to accommodate all survivors schedules.
✅We conduct 12 weeks of individualized training within our groups.
✅Survivors have a safe place to share their experiences w/their peers
✅The families of the survivors are gifted a free 3 month membership
✅The never have to leave, this is why we fundraise to cover the cost of their membership yearly
✅The program is evidence based and data driven, survivors DO have increases in strength, balance, flexibility and cardiovascular capacity

This program works. It’s important and the best part? The survivors never are done here. When they walk through our doors-they instantly become our family.

Please if you can donate a basket, let me know I will come and pick it up.

Remember this donation is 100% tax deductible

Day 7 of Annual Pool Shutdown 2026 was painting day! A massive shoutout to our lifeguards and staff for helping! An incredible job!

Did you know?: Our PoolPak (the big inflatable tube on the ceiling) is meant to control the humidity and air temperature of the pool deck. Without it, it would get so humid in the pool area it would be hard to breathe! 💀😯

On day 6 of Pool Shutdown 2026: The Aquatics Director had some help from his fellow lifeguards and other staff to put painter's tape down and finalize the surfaces for painting. The hot tub was also heavily washed and prepped. Painting begins tomorrow!

Did you know?: Pennsylvania's 28 Code Chapter 18 sets the minimum health, safety, and operational standards for public swimming pools and hot tubs. These are all the rules we have to make sure we follow to stay open for you. Like required number of lifeguards, chlorine levels, and water clarity.

🏀 Help Us Bring Youth Basketball to the Y! 🏀

We’re looking into starting a 5–8 Year Old Youth Basketball League at the Y, but before we can make it happen, we need your help!

We’d like to know:
🏀 Would your child be interested in participating?
🏀 Would you be interested in volunteering as a coach?

Coaches are a BIG part of making this league possible. We need enough volunteer coaches before we can move forward with the league. We are looking at running a league in January.

If you’re interested in having your child participate, coaching, or both, please let us know by emailing Amanda at [email protected]

Let’s see if we can get our youngest basketball players on the court! 🏀

For Pool Shutdown 2026 Day 4, our Aquatics Director finished getting all the water out of the pool! And began preparing the surface for painting. Now it just needs to dry. He also took care of some ugly rusted bolts in the pump room and replaced them with shiny new stainless steel ones as well as mourned the loss of a piece of equipment that's been around since 2008.

Did you know?: The pool pump pushed the water through the filter and pipes at 250 gallons per minute and had a turnover rate of 8 hours. That means all 120,000 gallons were put through the filter every 8 hours. That's fast!

Pool Shutdown 2026 Day 4: Today we honor the loss of one of our own. This pool pump has served the Eastern Lycoming YMCA since it first opened in 2008. It ran 24/7/365 for 18 years to provide the community with clean, filtered, and chlorinated water to swim in. But all good things must come to an end. Join us for a moment of silence to commemorate the end of this pumps life. Thank you. 🫡

Yesterday during day 2 of our Pool Shutdown 2026, our Aquatics Director got a few thousand more gallons out of the pool and did a much needed acid washing of the deck! There were also a few unwanted visitors he needed to "take care of" 👀

Did you know?: 120,000 gallons of water weighs just over 1,000,000 pounds! Our hot tub contains 1,500 gallons and weighs over 12,000 pounds! Can you bench that much? 👀

Why it’s so important
COUNTRY STRONG: A day for LiveSTRONG @ Herman & Luther’s is
for our survivors is why. Let’s take Rick for instance.
He’s been with LiveSTRONG as long as I have been. He did our pilot program. Holy crap I was so scared. All these survivors and me, brand new to working with survivors. Needless to say, we all made it. There was no room. We ran our program in the hall way some days. We had no money. Just a dream someday we would close this funding gap and the program could just keep going.
We (me and the survivors) would have to go and speak to Community Leaders so the survivors could share their experience. So we might get funding. So they could share their improvements. These days that’s called “social proof.”
Back then? Rick wore motorcycle boots to the Y. I will never forget when he dropped to the ground and showed the potential donors that he could do push-ups now!
A lot has changed since then. Rick is a YOGI. He’s the glue holding our Y community together. He never left❤️
He also got sneakers. As of a month ago, he and I had matching HOKA’S. That makes me smile.
A few weeks ago, Rick had to stop coming to the Y. The cancer is back. I refuse to accept this. So I pray every night on my knees and I ask for a miracle. Bc we are in this together. All of us. The survivors, Rick and his family, the yoga class-all of us.
I told him to save the date, Sept 27th bc no matter what-he’s sitting at the survivor table at the event.
This is 1 of hundreds of stories. This is why I need you to come. This is why we need the baskets. This is why this all matters so much. Don’t worry, I’m going to keep asking and posting. I’m not scared of “NO.”

I’m scared of a world where this incredible program doesn’t exist.

I love you Rick. Watch me blow this out of the water this year- all to honor you.
Save the date: Sept 27th
