You aren’t training hard enough if your last two reps don’t look like this!!!
Building muscle requires close proximity to failure on every set, not just the last set! Ideally you should have 0-2 reps in the tank on every set.
Should you push to complete failure every set? The science says no. 1-2 reps in the tank will do the trick, however, you do need to push to failure more than just occasionally to measure progress!
Track your weights, sets and reps every workout session. Try to make increases steadily over time. Don’t neglect your diet and you will make gains. If you don’t know where to start, reach out to me and let’s talk.

Squat prep before a lower body session!
1. Elevated Hip Swivels ( thanks )
2. Banded Cat Cows
3. Adductor Rocks
I perform these movements in a circuit for 2 sets of 10 each. I use a standard dynamic warmup before this consisting of basic movements such as knee hugs, quad pulls, lateral lunges and hamstring scoops.
Movement #1 and #3 have my hips feeling more open which makes squatting at depth much more comfortable for someone with tight hips from hockey.
Movement #2 is a great prep exercise for the for the low back.
These exercises not only help with prepping your body for subsequent movements, but they also help improve mobility. Give them a try and let me know what you think!
