This is Nalu. He is Five years old and I am looking to rehome him. He was one of my Swayze/Charm pups and is in need of an active family to love him. I am posting a few words from his current owners. This has been a very hard decision for them and I am hoping to find the right home. If interested, Please contact fill out my contact information form on my website.

Nalu (means “wave” in Hawaiian)
DOB: January 23, 2020
Neutered Male
Weight: approx. 48 lbs
Food: Purina Pro Plan (breakfast and dinner)
Flea/Tick/Heartworm: Simparico Trio
Allergy Medication: daily dose of 8 mg Apoquel
Other Medications: Currently he is on a daily low dose steroid for loose stool, but the vet has been working with us to get that under control. He also gets 1 TBSP of Metamucil (non flavored, psyllium fiber) on his food daily to help with the loose stool.
Medical History:
- Nalu had an umbilical chord hernia repaired when he was a puppy.
In June 2024, he had one a**l gland removed due to recurring issues with a**l glands.
He has had yearly teeth cleanings.
Temperament:
Nalu is an extremely friendly and lovable dog. He loves to be around people and kids and is rather indifferent to other animals although he has been the only animal in our home. He always wants to be next to or touching people. He is very smart and a fast learner especially if treats are involved. He can figure out dog puzzles quickly and will tell you what he wants - to go outside or to eat - easily. He knows basic commands but sometimes will not follow them unless he knows a treat is being offered. Nalu can dissect a dog toy faster than any dog we have ever seen. He methodically rips off tags and opens seams on nearly every toy he has ever owned and will eat whatever he can get from it. He is not really interested in the more durable toys. He loves his neck scratched and often tries to sit in people’s laps.
Nalu is extremely food driven and will eat just about anything if given the opportunity. He is obsessed with food. He is a “counter surfer” even though he knows he is not supposed to be. He is just so smart and knows he can grab stuff off the counters in a flash. We would NOT describe him as food aggressive though. He will let you take his bowl from him while eating without issue. He will just be disappointed and want you to put it back down. Also, if he happens to grab food off the counter, we are able to take it out of his mouth if we get there fast enough without issue.
Nalu loves to sit outside in the backyard next to our pool, however he does not like it when anyone is swimming in the pool. He gets extremely nervous and barks nonstop and runs in circles constantly until everyone is out of the pool. He loves to run on the beach and gets into the water regularly. There is just something about the pool that makes him nervous.
Nalu is crate trained. He sleeps in his crate at night in our bedroom (he waits patiently for a “night night cookie” and then goes to bed). He does a great job with that and only begins to whine a bit in the mornings when he is ready for breakfast. We are able to leave him in our living room with all doors CLOSED during the day when we are not home and he does fine. We DO allow him on the couches and on our bed, although he does not sleep there at night.
He is good on walks but will occasionally bark at golf carts and motorcycles. If given the opportunity, he will sprint out the front door and into the neighbors yard almost like a teenager looking for freedom. It is like a game to him. If this happens, we generally say “treat” or “dinner” and he runs back to the house. This has become a little difficult with our young daughter and older relatives who aren’t as quick to close doors.
Overall, Nalu is a wonderful dog. After five years, we just don’t feel like we are the right fit for him. He needs to be challenged both mentally and physically every day or he begins to get anxious. We are essentially unable to use our pool without boarding him and that does not always work for us. He may do better around other, better trained dogs who can lead by example. He is the smartest and most beautiful dog we have ever seen.
We know he will be a fantastic dog in the right home.
