What will it take to get this sweet boy a home? He’s such a doll and has been let down a couple times already in his life.

Quarter Horse - Diamond
Approx 15.3hh
Mid aged

Due to arthritis in his back- he’s not able to be ridden
BUT
-Sweet,easy, and safe around kids
-Does well as Liberty and w obstacles
-Makes a great friend to other horses.
-Fairly easy keeper
-Good w feet and ties and loads like a dream
-competed in hand at the Punta Gorda Performance Series this spring. His first time ever!
- Loves kids, to be groomed, painted and super patient w littles. He thrives on personal attention.

I have to believe he’s got a home out there somewhere with someone that will give him the love he deserves. He should not spend the rest of his life at a rescue. If you have a big heart, the physical and financial ability to care for him, and the desire to make a big impact in his life, please fill out an adoption application! And don’t forget to share this post with your friends!

I’ve got the day free - I wonder what I should do? Said no horse person ever!

My horse time-
Oh there’s something I forgot to do. I’ll just be a minute. Actual time is 1-2 hours

Hey I’m running to the barn. Be a couple hours. Actual time 4 hours. MINIMUM

Does this happen to you? The time literally disappears. I think it could be scientifically proven w some research 🤣🤣🤣
How did everyone’s horses do with the fireworks?
Feeding your new horse

Get really specific directions on feeding. If someone says I throw a few flakes morning and evening, what does that mean? How many flakes? Are they 2 tie or three tie? What kind of hay? That makes a huge difference if they get 3 flakes of 3 tie alfalfa and in the new home, get 2 flakes of two tie coastal. Difference between well fed and a horse that will become emancipated over time.

Most of our adopters spend enough time here to see what we feed, they may help feed the horse they are interested in, fill a hay bag, and have time to ask questions. But if you don’t have that opportunity, its really easy to misunderstand your new horses nutritional plan. Hay ideally is fed by weight, but most people don’t know how many “pounds” of hay their horse eats. The best way is to lay eyes on it, see what the owner feeds, how much they feed, the quality and nutritional value of hay that all matters. Remember hay is the most important thing for a horse, having unlimited access to quality forage helps w a whole host of other issues.

SOS emergency Zatara and his Adopter needing help
Zatara is colicking. He’s w his owner and the vet right now. Vet says he may need surgery. We all know this starts at $10k. They need it before surgery would take place. Im so heartbroken over this. I picked up Zatara at Gulfstream and he’s such a love. I’m taking pledges - if he does go to surgery and you can pledge some funds then call in directly to the vet please post below. This could happen to any one of us. He’s such an amazing horse and he really needs our help. She’s currently calling friends and family and she reached out to us. It’s a mad scramble to get what’s needed If you can pledge something please comment below
The peanut gallery. Watching General Obvious get off the trailer. He’s an adopted horse that was here for a short visit today. They really wanted to play!
Any day riding an ex racehorse is a good day! We put a huge effort into teaching kids how to be kind to horses. Groom them well. Learn anatomy. Learn how to be sure tack actually fits the horse. Ride but strive to do your best- don’t hang on the horses head, be balanced, learn to develop an independent seat. Mount from a block, light as a feather. Don’t ride if it’s too hot. Be aware of any injuries, anxieties and stressors. Take that into account. Intentions matter. Reward the horse for try. Ride with happiness in your heart. 💕💕💕

Interested in adoption? Please reach out! Want to learn? We can help!
LuJean, Summation and Judith’s Tango have had some nice relief this morning. This ACE bandage gently wrapped w very light pressure across acupressure points, helps w a variety of things. Both LuJean and Judith’s Tango have arthritis in a few of the areas the bandage touches. They both started licking and chewing as soon as the bandage was on. It remains for 20 min each horse
When you are cleaning stalls but need a break. Kids camp ongoing this week! Not to late to join. Feels like today is 104 but we are staying cool!
Safe and happy the way they should be
All ex racehorses. All injured but enjoying the good life.

Whats the secret to finding good homes? Story after story of horses rehomed to a trusted friend, a family member, even vet students, can end up w starving horses, horses dumped at auction, horses that just disappear. We in fact have had adopters w excellent references, ties to the community, and certainly not first time owners, end up having the horses that come back in horrific shape. Often in under a year. And sometimes, those who are first time owners actually do the best. Its so incredibly hard to sort this out.
We now have a TikTok account! What’s the best way to get noticed on social media?
This is common for horses in a stressful environment which includes being kept alone and not with other horses. And especially where there are actual predators. https://www.veterinary-practice.com/article/sleep-deprivation-in-horses?fs=e&s=cl&fbclid=IwAR1_YAFSsFW3XbBXyVJqwmUZmSvVrbH9tP8ojgI3QrgzAw4jKKFmTifZ0Bw&fs=e&s=cl
My failed repair on the auto water made for some fun later in the day. I think they are laughing at me 🤣🤣 but are enjoying the water park effect!

Number Two Son on the left - that’s Chevy and on the right is Summation which is Clay. Two peas in a pod when it comes to Mischief

Rehabilitation, rehoming, and retirement of Off Track Thoroughbred Horses We rehabilitate injured ex racehorses OTTBs (Off Track Thoroughbreds) These horses may come from the track- mainly Gulfstream Race Track, but also owner surrender or seized by authorities.

The bulk of what we do is provide care and medical treatment. Horses may be available for adoption once they have healed. Education and Outreach also play a big part in what we do. We have a strong volunteer program. Check our our website for a full list of what we do and our available horses. VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS, CLASSES AND VOLUNTEERING ARE APPT ONLY

Such great news for Ottb ReLyd has a home!
Her owner and a friend of hers reached out to us and was no longer able to care for her 4 horses and we are full so could not take any of them in but after some time networking we found just the most amazing local home for her. Here she is on the left.
The new owner has her in a great feeding program to bring her up to weight. She’s got a nice stall that opens to turn out and many new horse friends. I’ll post updates as I get them! We also found a home for her 30 year old Paso Fino pasture mate who is on a receding program. He’s super cute. The other two horses we networked and were amazingly taken in up in the Ocala area. Thanks to Diane from Wild Horse Rescue and Ann for picking up and taking these two to Ann’s place for care and training. It’s going to be a long road for everyone and the whole operation -It was really a lot of work for everyone but the horses are all in such great places. It takes a village. ReLyd in her new home. She’s on the left 💕

Looking for qualified homes! We are full and unable to offer sanctuary to this 22 year old OTTB mare and 30 year old Paso gelding. They are in a field together. Owner can no longer feed them. I can transport if it’s w in a reasonable distance.

Does your Ottb have a best friend? Number Two Sun raced at Calder and Sunmation was injured at Palm Meadows in training so is unraced They are besties.

Cash licking the Himalayan Salt. Notice that sometimes he uses the top and sometimes the underside of his tongue. He gets a rhythm going. Cypress only uses the traditional top of his tongue (like licking a popsicle) to lick, where Stevie will alternate one lick top and one using the underside of his tongue. Back and forth taking turns. Cash is sort of in the middle. He adds using the underside drug backward along the flat top of the lick. Interesting! Does your OTTB have any preferences like this that you have noticed? I don’t think I’ve ever seen them use the underside of the tongue on anything else!

Random pictures from the week. We work hard to care for these horses. The heat and storms make it that much harder but w great volunteers and service providers and supporters we are making it thru another season! The next two months are prime time for hurricanes. Hottest part of the year w the highest humidity. It will be a huge relief to make it to Oct Nov when we see temps be back under 90 hopefully. Nov 1st Hurricane season will be officially over.

Another great gift! A volunteer found this big truck on sale for under $30! Bought it and put it together now it’s ready for hoof care supplies! Our old one gave out after a few years of service so grateful to have a replacement!

Cypress appreciating one of the Himalayan Salt blocks on a rope! This is especially exciting as if we add electrolytes or salt to his regular meal he leaves it! So happy to see him getting what he needs. We have such kind supporters!

Last night Judith’s Tango having a roll after a hose off. It’s was a feels like of 106 yesterday! We won’t really cool down until Oct/Nov when temps may return to the high 80s. Smoking hot makes it harder for the horses and for those of us caring for them. Lots of breaks and plenty of water.
