A Pranayama Journey
Amy Lucky and Cesar Rios
APRIL 27 / 1-4.

Breath is central to the yoga practice, yet it is difficult to learn how to use the breath efficiently in our movement and stillness.

The term pranayama is derived from Sanskrit root words; Prana = “vital life force,” Yama = “control, restraint” and Ayama = “expansion.”

Pranayama techniques are what makes the yoga practice sustainable, as well as focus the mind and purify the body.

In this workshop, you will learn the science behind how the body benefits from yogic breathing and how to use these techniques to transform your yoga practice and daily life.

This workshop is beneficial for all yoga students and is ideal for teachers who desire to maintain tradition and authenticity in their teaching.

At Naples Yoga Center we see and teach yoga as a way of living, a practice that goes beyond the mat into your everyday life, our motto is "Yoga as a lifestyle, wisdom on and off the mat".

With that in mind, we are excited to launch our "Spring into learning" program. A series of workshops, trainings, master classes designed to encompass all the many layers that make Yoga a wholesome practice.

Join our experienced yogis, Kim Shand, Amy Lucky and Cesar Rios as they share with us their knowledge and skills in areas like Pranayama, Asana, Yoga mythology, philosophy, anatomy and more.

We'd love to share and grow with you, together we can build a strong and supportive yoga community that is ready to serve with knowledge and skill.

See you on the mat.

It's ! We're so grateful for our students, and our amazing Naples location! A key factor in an effective Yoga practice is to challenge oneself while also acknowledging one's limits. It's something we promote to our students in order to give them the best Yoga practice possible!

Good morning! Happy
Mindfulness is key during Yoga. As build awareness of ourselves, we can push to make the best offerings during our practice.

In today's "Mindful Monday":

-The Healing Power of Yoga.

A practice rooted in mindful and focused yoga sequences can heal the many layers of our physical bodies and mind. When going beyond the self, our practice can also offer healing and support to others, So how can our making shapes with our body and moving through the shapes be an offering to someone or something else? In a way, it is like making a donation in someone else's name but without the transfer of material things...
It is an offering without the expectation of anything in return.
It is also an offering that exists in a space where there is no separation between the one making the offering and the one receiving it.
When we use the power and sacredness of our practice for the sake of others we become part of a collective practice, we become part of something bigger than us, in doing so we are taking yoga and our practice to a very meaningful place.

our new "Wellness Wednesdays" is a space where we will share with you anything that might help your well-being beyond the mat. Because the practice of yoga is more than asana, and because the real practice of yoga begins when we step off the mat.

-Private Chef and Yoga Teacher Megan Healey is sharing with us a simple, yet delicious recipe for pickled beets, so take notes and get pickling!

- The foods we enjoy can nourish, balance and support the energy centers in the body. Beets can support us in bringing balance to the root chakra. When we are balanced in the root chakra, we feel secure, safe, and supported, and with a sense of belonging.

A posture to support the root chakra is the mountain pose or tadasana.

Try this recipe and let us know what you think!!

-wash the beets and leave the skin on. Place them in a pot and cover them with water. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water.
-boil beets on medium-low for 20-30 minutes. You will know they are ready when you can poke them with a fork.
-remove the beets from the water and let them cool. PRO TIP (Save the water the beets were cooked in for pickling brine/for a soup base or cooking grains.)
-while the beets cool combine the following ingredients and bring to a boil.
1/2 c. beet water
1/3 c. vinegar (apple cider vinegar, rice wine vinegar, white vinegar)
1 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar (monk fruit, stevia, honey, etc)
-while the brining mixture boils, peel your beets and cut them into small cubes. Add the cubed beets to a mason jar.
-once the brine comes to a boil, pour over the beets and place the lid on the jar.

Let the beets sit in the fridge for a few days to marinate. They are great on a bed of greens, straight out of the jar, or with a charcuterie board.

In our new "Mindful Mondays".

-Breath and Mindfulness

Your nervous system is watching you. Actually, your nervous system is constantly gauging your internal state based on the way that you are breathing. When we are anxious, the breath naturally shortens and increases its rate. If anxious is a default state (and for many of us it is), this type of short, shallow, and rapid breathing will become a habit. Therefore, every situation will feel like anxiety, because that type of breathing is communicating to the nervous system that you are in distress. The most valuable tool we have to train our nervous system towards calm is our regulated breath. Calm can also be a default state of our nervous system! When this happens, we can move through the experiences and relationships of our lives more skillfully and mindfully. Just imagine what this can do for you, and let us guide you toward mindful breathing in all of the classes at Naples Yoga Center.

March 6 is the very first day of Iyengar Fundamentals at Naples Yoga Center with Kara Thorsen.

In this class, we get introduced to the fundamentals of yoga and how Iyengar lived in, practiced, and taught yoga.

Asana is the third limb of yoga, it is our physical practice. It's where we begin to find patterns in the corporal form. You can expect physical work both rigorous and restful in this practice.

Yoga has a beginning but we don't know of an ending so in that aspect it also teaches us to manage expectations and maintain a state of equanimity throughout life.

"It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind, self, and intelligence."
B.K.S. Iyengar.

Ashtanga Elements

This class uses the wisdom of Ashtanga Yoga to provide professional and effective support for your personal yoga practice. Practitioners will be guided through the beginning of the Ashtanga Yoga sequence before exploring specific topics related to the asana practice. In this workshop-style format, we will draw from anatomical, mythological, and philosophical knowledge to enlighten the physical and meditative efforts of practice. This class is open to all experience levels, and will be especially useful for serious practitioners and movement teachers.

You work hard for your money during the week so you deserve some relief during the weekend!

Challenging times come with an opportunity to deepen our practice.

We'll see you as soon as power is restored. 🙏

The Simple Science Behind Movement and Mind

Are you a regular yoga practitioner who feels that progress in asana is elusive or limited? Are you a yoga teacher who struggles to communicate movement instruction and sequences to students? This is because something precious has been lost in the teaching of mainstream yoga - self-inquiry and understanding of how the quality of mind can produce functional or dysfunctional movement.

If you are longing for the kind of yoga where beauty, skill, and science mingle in the very depths of our muscles, bones, organs, and glands, this workshop is for you!

In this workshop, we will study the connection between movement and mind. Functional movement principles that foster mobility, lightness, and strength will be clearly explained to benefit movement practitioners and teachers. In this experiential session, you can expect breakthrough moments that will revive your love for yoga, on and off the mat.

We welcome practitioners and teachers of all experience levels to share in this knowledge.

The same excitement we feel about moving in ways we like or enjoy, it would be wise to bring that excitement into being still at the end of our practice. Movement and stillness complement each other, they are both necessary for us to find balance.
Don't skip or rush savasana, rather rejoice in the healing that comes from that stillness.
See you on the mat.
