General information

Middle Tennessee OUTsiders is an all-inclusive group inviting gay, le***an, bi, trans, q***r, and straight folks to enjoy hiking, camping, wading, swimming, rafting, and other outdoor activities together.

Our priority is to provide opportunities to explore and experience nature and the great outdoors via affordable activities with a down-to-earth, laid-back sensibility. We also promote and participate in these kinds of opportunities when they are organized by others.

We strive to create fun, safe, non-competitive, nature-focused recreational outings that promote healthful activity and appeal to participants who are diverse in terms of age, experience, and ability.

Information about our events is also on our Google site / calendar: https://sites.google.com/site/middletennesseeoutsiders/

***Participants are responsible for their own safety.***

OUTsiders are committed to taking care of each other. By participating, you agree to adhere to the safety guidelines and policies we establish. In the interest of safety, you’re expected to be clear-headed and unimpaired which means abstaining from the use of alcohol and substances before and during our activities. We respect applicable regulations and laws as well as our hosts’ wishes and rules for private lands and communities we visit. All participants must sign a waiver of liability.

Let us know if you plan to participate. We need to talk to you briefly and exchange contact information before you join us for the first time. Please coordinate driving plans with us (such as whether you will join us at the meetup, en route, or at the destination). If you need a ride we’ll try to help. We strive to be flexible so that folks can participate in OUTings in whatever way works for them - get in touch with us if you want to join later or just for a part so we can plan accordingly.

We plan to hike unless heavy storms or sustained rain is forecast. We’ll post updates on Facebook, via the email list, and text.

We generally require newcomers to join us for a couple of day hikes before participating in their first event on private land or multi-day OUTing. Slots for those who’ll be joining their first multi-day event may be limited. Participants on overnight OUTings are expected to limit alcohol consumption to a moderate amount around dinner time.

If you have questions about how we operate, just ask!

We are always interested in participants’ ideas and feedback.
