π + Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month π§
One year ago, I was deeply honored to receive the Citizen Scientist Catalyst Award at the annual Vanderbilt Center for Cognitive Medicine Brain Health Symposium.
This award, created by the Global Alzheimer's Platform Foundation (GAP), recognizes clinical research participants who help advance scientific discovery and encourage others to participate in research that may improve lives for future generations.
While receiving the award was incredibly meaningful, the real reason I participated in the study goes much deeper.
As many of you know, my mother lived with Alzheimer's Disease for nearly 10 years. Watching someone you love slowly disappear is heartbreaking, and that experience forever changed me.
It also inspired me.
In 2024, I volunteered for the CHAMP (Cognitive Health After Menopause) study at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. My hope was simple: to help researchers better understand how changes in women's brains after menopause may influence cognitive function and Alzheimer's risk later in life.
In this photo, the brilliant Dr. Alex Conley is fitting me with an EEG cap before conducting a brain activity assessment as part of the study. π§
Throughout June, I'll be sharing simple strategies, movement practices, and brain-health tips that can help support cognitive vitality as we age. While we can't control everything, there is far more we can do to support our brains than many people realize. π.
My mother's Alzheimer's journey taught me what can happen when brain health is lost. My work today is dedicated to helping people preserve it for as long as possible.
Throughout June, I'll be sharing simple strategies, movement practices, and brain-health tips that can help support cognitive vitality as we age. While we can't control everything, there is far more we can do to support our brains than many people realize. π
Here's to protecting our minds, supporting one another, and creating a brighter future for generations to come. π§ β¨

The Full Moon may have been hidden behind Nashvilleβs clouds tonight, but its light was still at work.
As I drove home, the sky reminded me that not everything beautiful needs to be fully visible to be felt.
Sometimes the moon hides.
Sometimes the path ahead isnβt completely clear.
And sometimes the light shows up in unexpected ways β painted across the horizon instead.
βClouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.β

Wishing you a peaceful Full Moon evening and a reminder that even when you canβt see the light, itβs still there. πβ¨

Were you aware that was celebrated yesterday? πͺπ
Did you also know the average person can lose up to 30% of their muscle mass by the time they reach age 60? π²
That loss of strength can impact:
β¨ Balance
β¨ Mobility
β¨ Bone density
β¨ Energy levels
β¨ Independence
β¨ Confidence in everyday movement
But hereβs the good newsβ¦
Aging does not have to mean automatically becoming weak, fragile, or less capable. π₯
Our bodies are incredibly adaptable when we give them the right input β and itβs never too late to begin.
With my clients ages 60+, we focus on safe, simple, and effective movement strategies that help the body and nervous system work together again. Using Original Strengthβ’ RESETS, breathing, functional movement, and strength-building exercises, we work toward improving mobility, stability, coordination, and overall quality of life. π€©
And yesβ¦many of these movements can even begin seated in a chair! πΊπ‘
A few benefits of consistent movement and strength training as we age:
β
Reduced fall risk
β
Better balance and coordination
β
Improved mobility and flexibility
β
Increased strength and stamina
β
Less stiffness and discomfort
β
Greater ease with daily activities
β
More confidence and independence
You do not have to start perfectly.
You simply have to start. π
Even small amounts of intentional movement can create meaningful changes over time.
π₯ Move better. Feel better. Live better.
