Let’s talk switch-barrel sniper systems:

Multi-caliber sniper setups aim to simplify logistics by making one rifle work across a wide range of calibers, usually from .585 bolt face to .470, or 338 LM to 308 win and any cartridge that can fit those faces. Though the barrel selection tends to gravitate towards the known quantities, technically the user could spin up barrel outside of those common calibers.

So what are your pros and cons? It would seem a turn-key solution for anything long range you could want.

So what are the pros?

1) Simplification: if you’re constantly switching environments and long range contexts, the hassle of bringing multiple rifles and optics and gear is frustrating. Same goes with ergos: one setup means strong familiarity.

2) POI/POA: there is no need to have multiple optics or switch optics around. Essentially, switch your barrel, bolt, and mag, and record the impact shift in your logs. Then dial corrections for each caliber as appropriate.

3) Reduction of duplicity: no need to buy several optics, bipods, mounts, or any other accessories for multiple rifles as everything is contained in one system.

We are investing in a switch barrel system here at SASS Concepts as well, because we benefit from the streamlining of one long range system as opposed to several rifles across various actions. We’ve also shot multiple of pictured rifles.

When it comes to switch barrel systems, consider all the aspects of “living” with it, as they’re not all quite the same in logistical support or inherent design details. However, for long range enthusiasts, it might be one of the best investments you can make for your journey.

This is SASS Concepts

In just about a year and a half, this is what SASS Concepts has become:

- full supporter and sponsor of sniper competitions from National Guard to USASOC

- verified CAGE code to work directly with the government

- countless people educated and advised on their precision systems

- partnerships with some of the best people and companies in the industry

Without the guiding hand of God, there would be no SASS Concepts.

To see what change and difference we make in the lives of snipers, hunters, and precision competition shooters is all worth it. To see the prayer requests come through each week and to help people feel supported make this company worth something.

It’s not about the rifles, optics, clip ons, tripods, and dope stickers/cards, it’s about using Precision for a Purpose.

6ARC 15.1 inch NSW Recce from

For several years I switched back and forth between various 5.56 lengths from 12.5 to 20 inches and none of them really had me that captivated except for the 12.5 because the size vs capability and the majority of my training at that time.

As time went on, the only thing I started using 556 for was Run N Gun competitions, even then most around here don’t extend beyond 300 or so yards (except for our recent match the which went to 650)

Picking up the 6arc made me appreciate a small frame gasser again after being spoiled by the capability of a bolt gun and even a large frame gasser.

With bolt guns it’s easy to build linear relationships with your data out to 700-800 yards with fairly capable consistency. Large frame guns easily out to 500-600 depending on the barrel length and caliber.

The 6ARC though brings the smoothness of a 556 gasser (if you have it built right) with the wind deflection of a M118LR and similar ballistics out to 550, even on a 15.1 inch barrel compared to a 20 inch barrel for a 308. The 15.1 6arc (slide 3) is pushing at 2537fps and the 308 20inch pushing 2600 fps (slide 4). DA is 681.

Though a 6.5cm gasser would largely out perform either of these, the 6ARC allows me to split the difference for now and focus on having a very capable and distinct bolt gun setup while also giving me the convenience of a small frame and the capabilities of a large frame in one SBR.

If you’re looking to love small frame gassers again in the world of precision shooting, give 6ARC a chance.

representatives stopped by yesterday and we all got to doing what all of us enjoy: assembling, inspecting, teaching, and testing various rifles and handguns offered by Steyr. Though the Steyr SSG M1 was not present in the presentation, talk to us if you’re interested on that or possibly acquiring one…

There’s a ton of rich history with this brand and it was cool to see the offerings.

The HS .50 M1 in the first picture was actually used in the KO2M (King of 2 Mile) competition utilizing AMAX rounds. The side-loading magazine is interesting but is specifically designed to keep dust and dirt away from the feeding mechanism of the bolt cycling given the massive muzzle brake that would kick up debris. They also stated that assembly and disassembly would be a return to zero. 2 or so hex bolts being tightened was all it really needed to be fastened together.

If you’ve ever shot a 50, the triggers are usually nothing worthwhile. However this trigger was surprisingly good for the weapon system.

The scout rifle, though not a “sniper” system by any means, still have some practical use cases. It was cool to get hands on one and test the functions and features of the integrated bipod and system as a whole.

Thank you to the representatives who came by and gave us a full overview!

Thank you also to for inviting us to come over and visit as well!

Mammoth 2026 at Ft. Chaffee:

We rucked 20.8 miles in the first two days at mammoth and had over 31 miles of mixed rucking and walking to shooting stages.

Unfortunately, the rain pooled in our tent a good 3-inches and due to weather the environment was not safe to be in for prolonged exposure and there was no way to get dry or at least stay warmed. Specifically, I was unable to retain enough heat to make it through the night safely.

However, we still shot 8 stages and had multiple, repeatable demonstrations of succinct communication and were complimented on some stages on our talk ons. is a very capable teammate and was very effective with his MK12 MOD1.

Despite having to bow out, the training lessons and proof of field use of our Durable D.O.P.E.™️ products were still of great value. We met several quality competitors and we hope Day 3 for them goes well.

The gentlemen with the were excellent guys in our squad and we hope they have a very successful day 3.

If you have any questions on the match, I’ll be happy to answer them in the comments or messages to help those who may be looking at Mammoth.

Thanks to those who volunteered their time to help run the match, as no matter what match it is, volunteers are the only way competitions can continue to run, grow, and improve. Good luck to the remaining teams and competitors!
