Calling all Louisiana MT-BCs:
Please add your voice to the survey released by the government relations team regarding changes to professional practice in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The information compiled will help us to further our advocacy efforts within our state by providing insight into how music therapists are adapting to meet community needs in this moment. Please respond to the survey if you have yet to do so before it is closed at the end of this month!

New Orleans artist Josh Wingerter recently adorned Frenchmen Street with paintings of iconic musicians and artists including this painting of Jimi Hendrix with the words “music saved my life”. As Board Certified Music Therapists serving the state of Louisiana, we get to see the power of music as a tool for healing on a daily basis. We’ve seen music used during social distancing as a means of uniting communities and spreading hope.
We want to hear from you!
How have you been using music lately?
How have you adapted to serve your clients and community?

As we all spend a little more time at home these few weeks, you may be wondering how we here at the task force are keeping moving in the state. Well, we’ve got a few ideas for how to advocate for our profession from your home!
Now might be the perfect time to write a letter to your legislator (instructions in the comments ⬇️⬇️)
We also want to hear from you about how you’re supporting the community you work in during this time! Now is a great time to show our creativity and adaptability in the service of our communities. Maybe you wrote a new hand washing song for your population, navigated a transition to telehealth, or you’re still working but with elevated precautions. Comment below or shoot us a private message with how you’re adapting your work.
Thank you for all that you do and to all our music therapists, students, legislators, advocacy partners, and everyone else: we hope you are healthy and safe during these next few weeks!

Last week, Molly Guinan, MT-BC and Task Force Co-Chair Mary Malloy, MT-BC had the opportunity to attend the Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council’s quarterly meeting to address ways to increase accessibility to music therapy services within the state. As a result of their efforts, The Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities has submitted a request to amend the language of the Children’s Choice Waiver to allow music therapy and other creative arts therapies to be billed through Medicaid.
