Every year, through our Louisiana BASS Nation College Series at least one team, our anglers of the year get a bid to the Bassmasters College Series National Championship.
This year the race for the AOY was as tight as we’ve ever seen it showing the elite fishing skills of our state anglers. In fact, only 2 points separated the top 4 places with two teams in a tie for 3rd place.
The format is a total score from all 4 tournaments using a lowest score drop method adopted because of the busy lives these anglers face.
We are happy to announce our 2026 Louisiana BASS Nation College Series Anglers of the year are Champ Morales and Grayson Aguillard of Southeastern Louisiana University.
For their efforts, once again, they get a coveted spot to the Bassmaster College Series National Championship and an over $1100 expense check to help with expenses for the trip.
This year the 2026 Strike King Bassmaster College Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops will be held Aug. 20-22 on Minnesota’s famed Leech Lake, marking the first time the prestigious collegiate event has visited the storied fishery.
Congrats go out to Champ and Grayson on an amazing year as well as all our teams who make up this ultra competitive series.
We are proud of all of you!

Louisiana B.A.S.S. Nation College Series Wraps 2026 Season at Jimmie Davis State
The Louisiana B.A.S.S. Nation College Series closed out its 2026 season on April 4th at Jimmie Davis State Park in Jonesboro, Louisiana, and what a finale it was.
With one of the tightest points races in recent years hanging in the balance, 18 teams launched under beautiful Louisiana skies, ready to leave it all on the water. The weather was ideal, the fish were biting, and the stage was set for an unforgettable championship showdown.
The bite did not disappoint. Five teams broke the impressive 20-pound mark, showcasing the ever-growing skill and competitiveness of today’s college anglers.
1st Place – Champ Morales & Grayson Aguillard (Southeastern Louisiana University)
Leading the pack was the Southeastern duo of Champ Morales and Grayson Aguillard, who brought in a dominant five-bass limit weighing 24.75 pounds. Their winning bag was anchored by the tournament’s Big Bass, an impressive 8.375-pound largemouth.
2nd Place – Noah Roberts (Louisiana Tech University)
Fishing solo, Noah Roberts proved he could hang with the best, finishing just ounces behind with 24.125 pounds. His limit was highlighted by a stout 8.0-pound bass, keeping the pressure on the leaders.
3rd Place – Devan Perkins & Kade Palmer (LSU)
Rounding out the top three was the LSU team of Devan Perkins and Kade Palmer. Their five-fish limit weighed 23.50 pounds, anchored by a strong 6.75-pound bass that helped secure their finish.

Johnston and Cowden also crossed the 20-pound mark, weighing 20.75 pounds to claim fourth place with a solid performance.
5th Place – Hunter Hamilton & Tyler Morris (LSU Shreveport)
One of the most consistent teams on the trail, Hamilton and Morris, added another strong finish to their résumé with 20.125 pounds, continuing their streak of reliability on the Louisiana B.A.S.S. Nation College Series.
A Season to Remember
A total of 31 college teams competed throughout the 2026 season, making it another successful and competitive year for the Louisiana B.A.S.S. Nation College Series. The growth and talent within the series continue to elevate the level of competition year after year.
A major driving force behind that success has been College Tournament Director Peyton Matherne. His dedication to recruiting teams and organizing these events has been instrumental in building the series into what it is today.
As this event marks Peyton’s final tournament in this role, the organization extends its heartfelt thanks for his hard work and commitment. As a recent graduate preparing to begin a new chapter—including marrying the love of his life—we wish him nothing but success and blessings in all that lies ahead.
Final points standings will be released soon—stay tuned as the race for the 2026 title comes to a close.
