2 weeks since Hurricane Ian made landfall: What we’ve learned about the storm 12/10/2022

Hurricane Ian hit southwestern Florida two weeks ago, leaving behind a path of destruction that people are still recovering from. Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected.

This coming Saturday (Oct. 15), the SWFL Hammerhead Rugby Team will be providing relief efforts. If you’re interested in volunteering with them, message us and we will connect you with the team or reach out to them directly through their Facebook.

Instead of having her scheduled lung surgery, Ms. Roxanne rode out Hurricane Ida. She is now recovering out of town and her neighbors called us looking for assistance to clean up the debris. Chief (Faith Federspiel) led the cleanup efforts for this home and also helped her neighbors Penny and Lee. Thank you, Chief!

Houma, LA was one of the worst hit areas by Hurricane Ida 😢 These are just a few pictures of the destruction.

Our team members helped with cleanup at several homes this past weekend (sharing stories later this week). Sending all the love to the community for their recovery and hoping that we can continue to assist with relief efforts.

Update from Chief (Faith Federspiel): I met today Mr. Lance from Houma, LA - he stopped me as I was pulling out of the American Legion Post 31 because he saw on the van Rugby Relief! He was wearing a Rugby club shirt and asked me what we were doing in the area. I talked to him about our organization and he said he has lost everything. He can rebuild his home but everything inside is gone, his businesses have damage and he will survive but everything he owns is gone. He had tears in his eyes as he told me his story! He said he stopped because he saw Rugby Relief on the side of the van and it gave him HOPE to know that his Rugby family was there to support. He is 71 and still plays rigby with the "old guys" when he can. He told me that he was excited to find a few treasures in his house that he could salvage and gave me a book to thank me for helping. He also asked to take a photo to remind him that his Rugby family was there to help. RUGBY Relief was formed to take care of those in need and it warms my heart to know just being there to listen to Lance's story helped him have a little hope in a time of Crisis and loss! Thank you to all our volunteers both past and future because it is folks like Lance that appreciate you in their time of need!!
