Emerging Scholars Day at Prairie View A&M University reminded me why mentorship matters.

Students spent the morning hearing from Dr. Justina Ogodo and digging into research and writing with Dr. Fred Bonner. In the afternoon they learned about the academic publishing process through the TXJME review workshop with Taylor Bunn.

During lunch, Dr. Gibson facilitated restorative circles on mentoring, because scholarship isnโ€™t just about producing research. Itโ€™s about relationships, guidance, and community.

Discipline without relationship is just control.
Restorative practices are about healing, accountability, and community.

๐Ÿ“Š Making Numbers Make Sense: From Data to Educational Justice

How can data be used to illuminate student strengths rather than reinforce deficit narratives? In this Texas NAME Spring 2026 webinar, Dr. Kristian Edosomwan explores how educators can interpret and use data in ways that center equity, recognize systemic barriers, and advance educational justice.

Rather than relying on numbers to justify inequity, this session invites educators to reframe data as a tool for understanding opportunity gaps, amplifying student potential, and informing justice-centered decision-making.
