Are you hiding the truth?
Sara Blakely, an entrepreneur we greatly admire, speaks very openly about her entrepreneurial journey.
During a recent interview, she said, "don't hide where you are in your journey."
Often we feel the need to present only our best selves to the world. Especially as leaders.
There's often pressure on leaders to put on a 'brave face,' not show any weakness and make sure you have all the answers.
However this isn't what people want from leaders; and it is a huge disservice to leaders themselves.
People are looking for connection. And connection requires honesty, vulnerability and empathy.
It can be scary to share your truth. Especially at work.
It's also incredibly powerful.
Why?
It shows us and others that we aren't alone.
It fosters connection.
And who couldn't use a bit more connection right now? 🙌

New Community Event: Join and Lead Connext for an interactive conversation on shifting from anxious to inspired achievement.
Do you ever find yourself thinking -
- What if my boss or clients find out that I'm not as smart as they think I am?
- How do I ensure I'm proving my worth?
- How much time should I spend preparing for this meeting if I want to avoid facing a question I can't answer?
- Why didn't I get the promotion if I'm smarter and work harder than the person who got the role instead?
If any of these questions hit home, you're likely operating from a stressed out model of 'Anxious Achievement,' where you're fueled by nervousness and fear.
This can work early in your career, but as you progress, you need to find a more sustainable, enjoyable source of fuel to power your success.
Join executive coach, Dr. Susan Bernstein, for an interactive discussion on how to shift from anxious achievement to inspired achievement, so you can power up the talents you love with greater ease, joy, and satisfaction.

A little food for thought to kick off the week. Do you agree??

As a leader, if you could only pick 1 thing to start doing this year, what would it be?
And how would you decide what it should be...
A great place to start is asking your employees the following 3 questions about your relationship and the team.
- What's one thing I should start doing?
- What's one thing I should stop doing?
- What's one thing I should continue doing?
Not only do these questions spark great conversations, as a team leader, they also provide incredibly valuable insight.
You learn more about the needs of each employee and about yourself as a leader.
Particularly your blind spots.
While the feedback may vary, trends will certainly emerge.
As you set your goals and intentions for 2021, have you asked for feedback?

Leadership can be lonely. Agree or disagree?
We have interviewed dozens of managers; and the most common theme. “I just wish I could talk to someone who’s been there.”
This is the inspiration behind Lead Connext and the community we are building together.
You don’t have to lead alone. Join us!
