Here are the 5 Essential Defensive Tendencies every elite defender must develop β¬οΈ
π§ Essential 1: Mentality
Defense starts with your heart. Effort, intensity, and pride can close any gap in size, athleticism, or experience. Elite defenders donβt hope for stops β they hunt them.
ππ Essential 2: Length & Athleticism
When paired together, length and athleticism allow you to contest without fouling, absorb contact, protect the rim, and recover when you get beat. This is how defenders stay disruptive for entire possessions.
π Essential 3: On-Ball Defensive Technique
Just like shooting has mechanics, so does defense. Foot angles, stance, hand placement, and timing are non-negotiables. High-level technique is what keeps you in front and forces tough shots.
