🏠 NEW HOME 🏡

Big news… Supertuck is moving to Red Hook!

I haven’t been on socials much, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy! The past few years in Greenpoint have been great, but if you were there, you know how small the space was. It’s time for an upgrade!

I can’t wait to stretch my legs with more space and bigger tooling. I’ll post more as I get the shop built out, but I’m aiming to be fully up and running by the end of this month.

Hope to see you there!

⚠️ CARBON BLOWOUT ⚠️

NOT an anti-carbon post. I ride and love carbon parts. But this was bad in the stand, and would have been catastrophic on the road.

I was inflating at 65psi when a huge chunk of the fairing of this FFWD F4 wheel let go. It gave a slight warning crack, and before I could get the pump head off, it blew. I was left ears ringing covered in carbon shards. Thank god I’m a glasses wearer and these were my personal wheels.

The carbon “rim” underneath was still holding the tire bead tightly, just the fairing blew. The only thing I can think of is that even though these wheels are tubeless compatible and taped properly, the rim cavity filled with air and blew under the pressure. That, or there was an internal manufacturing defect that finally let go.

The tires are WTb Exposure 30’s and have been on the wheels for a few hundred miles without issue and no accidents.

If anyone else has ever experienced something similar let me know. Be careful out there!

🌺 SHINOLA PATH RACER 🌺

This lovely (and built) Shinola frameset came to me by way of at the last year. I really wanted to do it up old school path racer style, and challenged myself to use as much as I had in the parts bin. Flip through for a good look!

I built a shiny wheel set using WORD hubs to tried and true CR18s. (Brass ni***es of course.) I did buy some polished Dia Compe long reach centerpulls, because anytime you can use centerpulls you should. I hacked together a front and rear cable hanger system (quite literally hacked the front, by drilling through my stem!)

The Beacon WCS bars are wide and shallow, perfect for this bike, and I like the contrast of them with the old drillium record levers. My trusty camo bar tape and some vintage Fujita red bar plugs are a good looking pair.

I wrapped the top tube with cotton tape, using a seamless non-overlap wrap. Two coats of shellac and rubbing it with greasy hands make it look like it’s been on there for a few dozen years. A cute brass bell, a vintage brass seat binder nut, and a broken in X2 and it hits the new / old aesthetic nicely.

This frameset is unique in that it takes 135mm rear spacing, which lets me run 42mm Rutlands with plenty of room! Some ENO cranks and freewheel, gold and trusty XT spd pedals make everything move smoothly.

I wanted to build a classy single speed that could go from city cruiser to without changing any parts. It rides wonderfully, and looks sharp to boot.

See you on the trail!

👋 2023 ✌️

Peace out MMXXIII! I had a lot of great bikes in the stand this year at Supertuck. From high end to rat rods, speed machines to tourers. Here are some of my favorite builds, as well as a sneaky peek at the first build coming out of the shop in 2024.

1. Hi from Supertuck! It’s just me (Brenden) in 100 sq ft of crowded space.
2. Kelly Bonestock
3. 1940’s Rollfast Klunker
4. Rivendell a Hubbuhubbuh Tandem
5. Bridgestone X0-2
6. Diamondback Apex aka “Stink Boy”
7. Serotta T-Max
8. Serotta A Modo Mio
9. Velo Orange Campeur
10. MAP Randonneur - Full build coming soon!

I’m so thankful to anyone who has come through the shop. Whether you had me build you a bike, wrench on something, or just came by to hang out. A bike shop is nothing without community. I can’t wait to see what 2024 has in stock!

Happy new year!
- Brenden
