Finally the media got it right!

For a long time I’ve been craving to see a more authentic representation of neurodivergence and especially how it is shown in women, and that of Autism.

I’m glad that the UK is at the forefront of casting a more deliberate approach vs fame and name recognition.

I could identify with Patience character in the show on a few areas. Mind you, it’s also about the phase where I am in my journey of unmasking and have yet to fully embrace it without shame.

It is tantamount to state the obvious that how our strengths have merit and add value. Maybe we need to stop focusing on the negatives?

‼️ Spoiler alerts: My thoughts and what I identify with
- The no touching. 💯
- The overwhelm of meeting people and what to expect from the unknown.
- The sensory issues , and for me the people talking.
- Walking away from conversations when I get overwhelmed without communicating.
- The enormous empathy, but not shown how neurotypicals do it.
- My fav, the tidy and orderly desk and space. The one episode where she walks into the space of a cluttered crime scene the smile,
- My favorite; the little boy and his behaviors. The mother’s journey and what it means....so much to dive into here. (I shall not say, don’t want to spoil too much).
- The omni-lens used to see community, person identifiers, condition identifiers, the subtle depiction of dysregulation and yet also what it looks like in others seeing it.....
-similar vs identical; possible vs probable 💯❤️ (I get gaslight for my exactness and literal usage and correcting others).
-.....shall I go on?

I maintain - “If you’ve met one (autistic especially), you’ve met one).

I’m curious what my other folks have got to say and do you identify or could relate to aspects of her character and living, routine, and burn out?

Great job !

People often say, “We all have a little ADHD,” but here’s the thing: ADHD is a real, complex diagnosis rooted in unique brain chemistry, not just a quirk.

Here’s is something to keep in mind on how brain chemistry impacts us—and why we may come across as “all over the place,” when really, it’s just how our brains work:

👍🏾 Dopamine: We chase dopamine like it’s the last cookie in the jar. Dopamine helps regulate focus and motivation, and we have lower levels than neurotypical brains. So yes, we can hyperfocus on things we love (hello, passion projects!), but getting started on less stimulating tasks? That’s another story.

🤟🏿 Executive Functioning: The prefrontal cortex—responsible for planning, organizing, and time management—functions a bit differently in ADHD brains. This can make us seem scattered, but it’s actually our brain struggling to stay on one task long enough to finish it. We’re not unreliable; we’re just wired to think broadly, not linearly. My Autie side helps me with my linear thinking, and then I go lateral and off on tangent...lol

👋🏿 Impulsivity: Lower levels of norepinephrine make our brains crave new, interesting stimuli, leading to impulsivity. We’re curious, creative, and quick to think outside the box because we’re drawn to novel ideas. This can come across as flighty, but it’s really our brain’s way of seeking balance.

Traveling with anxiety. As I always tell my clients. It’s one step at a time. This was step 5. We are on the train so that is step 6 and 7.

I love being me and I also dislike it because I can’t always be strong enough to mask.

Daenerys was inadvertently trained 2 years ago to soothe me when I’m highly anxious and heavily breathing.

She lays on my chest or licks me to death until my breathing slows down.

Who would have thought two highly anxious beings are each others’ service animals?

I asked the AMTRAK folks about but they said no. A lot of work to be done .

People with ADHD sometimes delay tasks until the last minute, like doing the dishes, folding, (anything repetitive in my book, at least for me), etc. when someone arrives unexpectedly.

This happens because their brain crave excitement and urgency, making routine tasks less appealing until they become urgent.
So sometimes, when you neurodivergent team member do not keep you up to date on progress, this is the reason.

So what do you do, you may ask?

1. Provide milestones for each deliverable e.g. if something is due in 2 weeks, request for a 1 week check-in on progress to iron out anything that requires extra lifting.

2. Let them own the process for the deliverable that way they are in-charge of the timelines and can hold accountability.

3. Be supportive and flexible in case it doesn't go the way you want it to. We are all human, things happen, like perhaps dysregulation, the person is on different meds (if they are on meds), you didn't communicate things clearly, etc.

ADHD'rs thrive on a dopamine hit, so the urgency of the task completion is the rush even though it is at our own detriment.

Wanna talk about it? Reach out.

My client: I love multi-tasking, and to be honest, I don't seem to get everything completed on time. I get it completed, but not on time and I am so stressed out afterwards.
Me: I totally get what you mean about the whole multitasking thing. It's like, everyone's always talking about how great it is to juggle a million things at once, but for those of us with ADHD brains, it can be a total nightmare! We end up feeling super overwhelmed and our productivity takes a nosedive. It creates a false sense of productivity, right?

But you know what? There's this awesome strategy called "The Art of Single-Tasking" that's like a secret weapon for ADHD minds. Instead of trying to do everything at once, you just focus on one thing at a time. And here's the best part: it actually plays to our strengths!

You know how sometimes we can get really, really into something and tune out the rest of the world? That's called hyperfocus, and single-tasking totally taps into that superpower.

So, how do you make single-tasking work for you?

1️⃣ First off, you gotta prioritize. Every morning or whenever you start working, take a look at your to-do list and pick the most important or trickiest task. That way, you're giving your best energy and focus to the stuff that really counts.

2️⃣ Next up, create a space that helps you concentrate. Get rid of any distractions that might pull your attention away from what you're doing. For me, it’s the snacks and Daenerys…lol! Let the people around you know when you need to focus, so they don't accidentally interrupt your flow.

3️⃣ Oh, and here's a pro tip: use timers to break your work into chunks. There's this thing called the Pomodoro Technique where you work for a set amount of time (usually 25 minutes), then take a quick break. It's like giving your brain little rest stops so you don't get burnt out.

When you find yourself in the zone, really lean into it! Let that ADHD hyperfocus work its magic and help you crush your task. And when it's time to move on to something else, give yourself a moment to switch gears mentally.

The Art of Single-Tasking; an ADHD-friendly approach to getting things done without the overwhelm. Give it a try and see how it works for you! Let me know.

Gentle Reminder!!! I know things might feel really tough right now, and I want you to know that you're not alone in this.

Whether you're struggling to find a job, dealing with mental health issues, feeling isolated, or worried about your business, it's important to remember that what you see on social media isn't the whole story.

It's easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, especially when we see posts about people landing new jobs, getting clients, or having amazing days. But the truth is, those posts are just a highlight reel - they don't show the full picture of anyone's life.

Instead of focusing on what everyone else is doing, try to focus on your own journey. Take things one day, or even one hour, at a time. Celebrate your own victories, no matter how small they might seem. You are the only person you need to measure yourself against.

You have so much to offer, and you're doing the best you can with what you've got.

Be kind to yourself, and don't be afraid to reach out for support when you need it. You've got this, and I believe in you.

Hang in there, friend. Better days are coming.

Fellow human!

What does it mean “You’re busy”?

Learn how to be simplistic and get comfortable with routine. Being busy doesn’t make you successful or create a sense of importance or that you are sort after.

How is it serving you and how is it not?
