For many families, the word “cancer” immediately sounds like the end.

But it doesn't have to be.

Today, childhood cancer can be treated and cured in many cases, especially when children are diagnosed early and receive appropriate care. Yet huge inequalities remain: IARC reports that nearly 94% of childhood-cancer deaths occur in Africa, Asia, South America and the Caribbean.

So the question is not only “Can childhood cancer be treated?”

It is also:

“Does every child get the chance to receive that treatment in time?”

This is where the work of Ellaniel Foundation matters.

Through our Childhood Cancer Champions & Early Detection Workshops at Nkwen Baptist Hospital, Bamenda, and Mutengene Baptist Hospital, we are building knowledge, strengthening awareness and encouraging people to recognise warning signs and seek care early.

Because hope needs action.

This Gold September, let's replace fear with knowledge, silence with conversation, and late action with early action.

This is one of the realities behind the Ellaniel Foundation’s Childhood Cancer Champions & Early Detection Workshops at Nkwen Baptist Hospital, Bamenda, and Mutengene Baptist Hospital. We brought people together to build one thing that can make a difference:

KNOWLEDGE.

Because early detection starts when someone knows that a persistent or unusual symptom deserves another question not another delay. We may not be able to prevent every childhood cancer. But we can work to prevent missed opportunities to recognise it.
That is what Gold September 2026 means to us.

💛 Speak up.
💛 Give a child a fighting chance.

Now tell us: if you noticed something unusual in your child today, would you know when it was time to seek medical attention?

HOW WELL DO YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR CHILD?

Not just their favourite food.
Not just their favourite game.
Not just when they are happy or upset.

Can you recognise when something in their health has changed?

A symptom that keeps coming back.
A swelling that doesn't go away.
Unexplained weight loss.
Persistent headaches or unusual tiredness.

These things may have many causes, and they do not automatically mean cancer. But when something is unusual, persistent or unexplained, your concern matters.

This is one of the most important lessons from the Ellaniel Foundation’s Childhood Cancer Champions & Early Detection Workshops at Nkwen Baptist Hospital and Mutengene Baptist Hospital: Knowing your child can help you notice when something isn't right.

And noticing is where action begins.

So, how well do you really know your child?

Yesterday, the world turned gold.
But today, we need to ask, why?

More than 275,000 children and young people were diagnosed with cancer in 2024, and nearly 94% of childhood-cancer deaths occur in Africa, Asia, South America and the Caribbean.

This is our reality. And this is exactly why the Ellaniel Foundation took childhood cancer awareness beyond social media and into the hospitals.

At Nkwen Baptist Hospital, Bamenda, and Mutengene Baptist Hospital, we brought healthcare professionals, caregivers, teachers and community members together to build knowledge around childhood cancer, warning signs and early detection. Because we learned something important through our workshops:

We may not always be able to prevent childhood cancer.
But we can help people recognise it sooner.
We can help families seek care earlier. And we can help give children a fighting chance.

This Gold September, don't just wear gold.
KNOW.
SPEAK.
ACT.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This month, we go GOLD for every child fighting cancer, every survivor, every family walking this difficult road, and every child we remember.
We see you. We stand with you. Childhood Cancer International@child .

WE DIDN’T JUST GO GOLD. WE TOOK ACTION.

This September, the gold ribbon carries a deeper meaning. At Nkwen Baptist Hospital, Bamenda, and Mutengene Baptist Hospital, the Ellaniel Foundation brought healthcare professionals, caregivers, teachers and community members together for our Childhood Cancer Champions & Early Detection Workshop.

Why?

Because behind every statistic is a child who needs someone to notice the signs, speak up and act early. Our workshops were not just about sharing information. They were about building a network of people equipped to recognise childhood cancer earlier and help families find the support they need.

That is what Gold September 2026 means to us. Not just awareness. Not just a gold ribbon. But action that can reach a child before it is too late. 💛

Cancer should never be the end of a child’s story.

A child can survive cancer and still face another battle: getting back to school, rebuilding confidence, and finding their place again. That is why our Hope Fundraiser means so much.

Together with our partner, CBC Health Services, we have been able to support childhood cancer survivors as they take an important step forward returning to school.

Because survival is more than being cancer-free.
It is having the chance to learn, dream, grow and build a future. Every contribution to the Hope Fundraiser helps us keep creating those second chances. A child deserves more than survival. A child deserves a future.
