๐Ÿคซ How sheโ€™s dropping 3 LB/wk (steal her secret)

Want to learn how to get into a "fat shredding groove," where you lose 3 LB each week, without:

Feeling hungry
Working out non-stop
Hating what you eat
Moreover, want to learn how to do it despite the obstacles of:

Traveling for work
Tending to your family
Being a perfectionist
Yup, my client Faith has learned how to โ€œeffortlesslyโ€ lose her desired weight of 3 LB each week.

Not only is she conquering those obstacles posed by work and life, but also posed by the fact she's in her 60s, post-menopausal, and dealing with nagging injuries. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

How?

Iโ€™ll let you in on her routine; #3 is the MOST important:

Walking is a great tool for fat loss, especially if you're more senior. The trick is you have to do it a lot, and consistently, but it can definitely work. Faith wakes up an hour early each day and gets it in.

Eating a similar, repetitive menu takes the guesswork out of โ€œwhat, when, and how muchโ€ to eat.

These are the 3 key facets of nutrition, as I teach in my bestselling health transformation book, โ€œThe Nine Shifts.โ€ (See chapter 20, Optimize Your Nutrition).

Find a fat loss-friendly but tasty menu that helps you hit your macronutrient and calorie goals, then rinse and repeat.

We always hear about how important it is to โ€œstick to the right habits.โ€ But...

Thatโ€™s because we're slaves to our beliefs and subconscious thinking patterns; they drive every action (and inaction).

Without understanding the belief thatโ€™s driving a habit, we rely on willpower, which rarely lasts more than two weeks.

Instead, we must transform the thinking pattern driving the bad habit.

But now, sheโ€™s got it down:

The mindset, the walking, and the consistent eating thatโ€™s got her in a groove of losing 3 LB each week.

What I love the most about all this is how she FEELS. She says:

๐Ÿ˜ค The โ€œFrustration Formulaโ€ (and how to undo it)

If you find yourself feeling frustrated more than once per week, this mindset email is for you...

As a fellow high achiever, I'm prone to get frustrated at people easily.

In fact, Iโ€™ve been going through some stuff with one of my virtual assistants and itโ€™s been leading to some frustration.

So, I came up with this formula to help explain why this happens.

THE FRUSTRATION FORMULA:

Let's break down each component:

A. I โ€œexpectโ€ things to be this way
B. They โ€œshouldโ€ be no other way (i.e. you're โ€œattachedโ€ to your point of view)
C. I feel frustrated when they're not that way!

Letโ€™s deconstruct the formula in two easy steps:

Our expectation has to be clearly communicated and realistic. If we make ๐’‚๐’”๐’”๐’–๐’Ž๐’‘๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’๐’” that the person understands or is capable of meeting the expectation when they're not, the expectation was not realistic to begin with.

Note: This doesn't mean we're not allowed to expect and need certain things from the people we are in a relationship with. We totally are.

But it's ๐’๐’ ๐’–๐’” to make sure the expectation is clearly communicated, clearly understood, and fully AGREED TO by the other person (and NOT from force or coercion).

It can also help to ask them to ๐’“๐’†๐’‘๐’†๐’‚๐’• ๐’˜๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’•๐’‰๐’†๐’š ๐’‰๐’†๐’‚๐’“๐’…, and guide them to think things through in terms of how they will meet your expectation.

Some people "get it" faster than others, especially if they're struggling with something affecting their cognition like brain fog, anxiety, depression, poor sleep, poor diet, or simply them having a bad day.

To be effective leaders, this is something we have to be sensitive to.

Iโ€™ve written in the past about being careful with the word โ€œshould.โ€ Using should indicates we are coming from a place of judgement and criticism.

It creates attachment to the outcome and locks us into one point of view.

We probably heard โ€œshouldโ€ so often growing up (and use it now in our own self-talk), it's just a natural part of how we speak.

However, our words create our perception.

Being attached to an outcome or one point of view leads to frustration.

In sum, if we want to avoid frustration, ๐’˜๐’† ๐’‰๐’‚๐’—๐’† ๐’•๐’ ๐’•๐’‚๐’Œ๐’† ๐’•๐’๐’•๐’‚๐’ ๐’“๐’†๐’”๐’‘๐’๐’๐’”๐’Š๐’ƒ๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š for our expectations and we have to be unattached to it getting done.

Expectations, especially unrealistic or uncommunicated ones, will hurt a relationship and cause frustration.

I believe that this is a big lesson us high achievers need to learn if we don't want to be "alone at the top of the mountain."

It takes more effort and patience to pull someone up the mountain with us, but in the end, the effort is usually worth it.

Let me know if this resonated with you!

Happy โ€œfrustration free achieving,"

๐Ÿ˜ฌ Some Hard Truth About Blood Sugar and Prediabetes ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I love my tribe members (i.e. you).

Sometimes loving someone means dishing out some tough love when itโ€™s needed.

With your permission, Iโ€™d like to share some much needed โ€œhard truthsโ€ about blood sugar and prediabetes.

Per the CDC, 98MM Americans (38% of US adults) have high blood sugar levels.

The number has increased by 300% in the last 30 years.

Thanks to the American lifestyle, food supply, and Big Pharma, many of us will eventually develop it.

To make matters worse, traditional Western Medicine doesnโ€™t have sustainable answers other than to put those with high blood sugar on side-effect laden medications like Metformin.

Now, thereโ€™s good news and bad news about this situationโ€ฆ

๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐š๐ ๐๐ž๐ฐ ๐…

Having high blood sugar:

Causes inflammation, accelerates aging and puts stress on our brain and organs.

Increases our risk of stroke, cancer and cardiac disease.

Makes it much easier to gain weight and much harder to lose it.

For these reasons, there is ๐’“๐’†๐’‚๐’ ๐’–๐’“๐’ˆ๐’†๐’๐’„๐’š to bring blood sugar levels down to a healthy range once it develops (or, ideally, prevent it altogether).

High blood sugar ๐‘ฐ๐‘บ reversible. Iโ€™ve helped many clients reduce their A1C levels and ditch the prediabetic label for good.

It takes very carefully monitoring and optimizing all of the key inputs of your metabolism because, again, high blood sugar makes losing weight a lot harder, especially after 40.

I wonโ€™t sugar-coat it (see what I did there?)

Get any of these wrong and it can lead to a stubborn plateau, or, worse, rapid weight gain.

Thus, the right strategy and ongoing monitoring is vital.

If you or a loved one has elevated blood sugar levels, or you want to avoid getting it, then time to act is NOW.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป To help with this, Iโ€™ve created a free, 2-minute blood sugar quiz that uncovers some key areas to focus on in order to bring blood sugar levels down.

Comment โ€œBlood Sugarโ€ below and Iโ€™ll send it to you.

Once you get it, take it.

Based on your answers, Iโ€™ll send you a free blood sugar management resource I use with my clients.

Comment โ€œBlood Sugarโ€ now.

3 secrets for a strong 2nd half

Don't look now, but...

Half the year is gone (P**F! Just like that ๐Ÿ˜ฎ).

You can say itโ€™s officially โ€œhalftimeโ€ in the game of 2024.

Are you set up well to have a strong second half?

To help with this, letโ€™s look at what professionals athletes do at halftime of a game.

You can steal their secrets to ensure you do the right things to โ€œwinโ€ when the clock runs out on your 2024.

1. Rest & Replenish (Recover)
Athletes use their halftime intermission to recover and replenish their energy. Take advantage of summer weekends and vacations to do something good for your mind and body.

Pro Tip: Some people mindlessly eat and drink during such breaks. Instead, be mindful to feed your body good foods, and do something that โ€œfeeds your soulโ€ (i.e. doing something that truly fulfills you).

2. Assess Your Progress (Reflect)
Reflect on the "halftime score" of your year. Look back and acknowledge how your year has gone so far. Celebrate and acknowledge what you, and those around you, have done well.

Pro Tip: The mind's bias for negativity will immediately focus on whatโ€™s missing. Donโ€™t let it. Focus on the good and โ€œpraise the progress.โ€ Progress is motivating. This will also make you fell grateful. From there, look for areas of improvement.

3. Make Halftime Adjustments (Reset)
If you're looking to improve your body and health, think about some high-leverage areas that will really move your progress forward (e.g. elevating your mindset, tracking your nutrition, adding muscle and strength, etc.).

Pro Tip: Think about some easy โ€œmicro shiftsโ€ you can make in your daily or weekly routine to start moving things in a new direction. Perhaps itโ€™s waking up 10 minutes earlier to start your day with an mind and body empowerment practice, logging some meals to better understand what you're consuming, or getting some accountability to ensure youโ€™re staying consistent with your habits.

By treating this mid-year checkpoint like a pro athlete does during halftime of a game โ€” to recover, reflect, and reset โ€” you will ensure you finish the year strong!

Happy โ€œwinning your second half,โ€

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ 4 Stay-Lean Strategies For The 4th of July

Tomorrow, July 4th, is American Independence Day. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

For me, I like to connect the ideals of "living freely" and being "independent" with maintaining good health throughout our lives.

By being healthy, strong, and lean, we get to live life freely, without limits...

..and without having to depend on anyone as we age!

This starts with knowing how to manage our mindset and our schedule so that we're eating and exercising properly, year round, even during holidays.

The 4th of July is usually celebrated with lots of eating and drinking -- and not always the healthiest food options, if you know what I mean! ๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿบ

But I got you covered in this blog post:

4 Strategies For a Guilt-Free Fourth of July

These strategies will help you enjoy the festivities without hurting your goal of staying lean and healthy.

In fact, they work great for ANY holiday or big eating event - not just The 4th of July.

๐Ÿง Do you take an all-in/all-out approach to things?

Do you ever feel like you take an all-in/all-out approach to things?

In other words, when you're good, you're really good. But when you're off, you're totally checked out.

Does this result in you being inconsistent with your habits?

If so, you're not alone.

This is actually pretty common for high achievers and perfectionists.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Here's an easy fix:

Consistently taking minimal actions towards your goals cures wild extremes.

๐Ÿ’ฐ If it's a financial goal, this can look like saving a bit each week or each month. (Set up automated savings or investment withdrawals. I like to use the Acorns app for this).

๐Ÿฉต If it's a health goal, this can look like multi-tasking some level of activity into your day. (Seek to take more calls standing up, or while walking outside or on a treadmill).

๐Ÿ‘” If it's a career goal, this can look like creating at least one post per week on LinkedIn or your blog to showcase your expertise. (Create a recurring time block in your calendar; this will create an "appointment with yourself" for getting this done).

From a mindset perspective...

Taking these minimal actions (also know as โ€œImperfect actionsโ€) instead of WAITING to do the perfect thing at the perfect time...

..keeps your goals top of mind and prevents you from going into the "guilt mode" that results from us doing nothing for long stretches.

Here's to more consistency and less guilt.

Happy โ€œimperfectly perfect progress,โ€

Here's why we procrastinate

If you ever wondered why we procrastinate instead of doing what we should, know this:

Procrastinating is the mindโ€™s default.

Here are two reasons why (and how to overcome them)โ€ฆ

1๏ธโƒฃ The Mind Does Not Like Exertion

Giving effort takes exertion, and exertion takes energy.

The body relies on energy for survival.

Thus, anything that requires energy makes the mind resist.

2๏ธโƒฃ The Mind Prefers the Familiar

Whatโ€™s familiar reduces the risk of harm or injury.

So the mind will always prefer familiar roads, familiar people, familiar tasks, etc.

The mind will constantly seek to reduce uncertainty and the unknown.

Especially if taking a chance on the unfamiliar created pain in the past.

Examples include the pain of failure, rejection, disappointment, heart break, etc.

Combine obstacles 1 and 2 above, and you get a formula for staying stuck. ๐Ÿ˜–

This is the mindโ€™s default: It will be resisting anything that takes effort or that is unfamiliar.

But if you reduce the mindโ€™s resistance to 1 and 2 above, you get in action. This creates forward momentum and motivation.

You can do this by breaking down tasks into something small, and allowing yourself to take โ€œimperfect actions.โ€

โœ… This will reduce the perceived exertion required for doing the thing.

โœ… Once you start doing the thing, it starts to become familiar, and voilร , procrastination disappears!

Ultimately, the mind will procrastinate.

But starting small and finding easy steps you can โ€œjust do nowโ€ will help you move past it every time.

Happy โ€œprocrastination busting,โ€

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Want your results to last?

Want to know why most people struggle to achieve lasting change?

It's because they are too focused on the outcome.

This applies to any goal, but I will show you how it applies to keeping your body and health in an optimal place throughout your life.

Letโ€™s start with a business example.

If an entrepreneur has a goal of growing his or her business to $1MM in revenue, they can push hard to try to reach this goal.

One of two things usually happens:

A. They hit the goal but burn themselves out (successful but not sustainable)
B. They donโ€™t hit the goal but keep trying futilely and eventually quit (sustainable but not successful)

This also applies to reaching oneโ€™s heath goals.

Most people can push hard to lose some weight but they do it in a way thatโ€™s not sustainable, and they eventually regain it.

Or they donโ€™t reach their goal, eventually quit, and accept that theyโ€™re destined to not having the body and health they want.

To achieve results and have them last, whether in business or with your body, we have to shift our focus from the outcome we want (e.g. earn a million dollars, lose 30 LB, etc.) to the process that will get us the outcome.

Hereโ€™s what I mean.

A client messaged me today saying:

โ€œMy mom and I are doing a challenge for the next week. She wants to lose 2 lbs and I'm going to lose 4 lbs!โ€

I replied to her saying "cool" that she was getting mom involved, but I also added the following wisdom:

We don't get the outcome by focusing on the outcome.

We get it by focusing on the process -- and consistently working the process --- that gets us the outcome.

You also want to tie this perspective to your identity.

Ask yourself, โ€œWho do I have to BE to get the outcome?" (e.g. lose 4 LB).

You have to BE it before you can become it.

This means:

You have to BE the person who earns a million dollars per year, and it will show up.
You have to BE a person who is healthy, in both mind and body, and the weight will stay off.
You have to GIVE UP ATTACHMENT to the outcome and play full out on doing the right things that get you the result.
The progress you're looking for (e.g. more money, less body fat, etc.) will take care of itself.

I talk more about this in my bestselling transformation book, The Nine Shifts.

Keep this quote from Deekron in mind:

"The progress is in the process, not in the outcome."

๐Ÿ˜ Want to see how I just schooled Mel Robbins?

I think I just schooled Mel Robbins.

In case you havenโ€™t heard of her, sheโ€™s a pretty famous author, motivational speaker, podcaster, etc. (No relation to Tony Robbins)

Recently, she made the following post on LinkedIn:

โ€œI donโ€™t understand why everyone is afraid of failing when it hurst so much more to miss out on everything that you dream of because you lack the courage to try.โ€

No, Mel?

You, of all people, donโ€™t understand why this is?

(I was pretty surprised she posted this. Sheโ€™s someone who is supposed to be known for her mindset teachings).

I left the following comment on her post (itโ€™s my answer her rhetorical question).

It will help you understand why we fear failure and how to overcome it to not miss out on your dreams (better put, your most important goals).

My response to Melโ€™s post:

โ€œIโ€™ll tell you why (Mel). Because we're wired for safety and avoiding pain. Failing at something triggers our subconscious fears of not being "good enough to be loved" and accepted by those we rely on for protection and survival (i.e. our parents and our tribe).

So while the logical mind says "try" the emotional mind says "nope." And since emotions drive our decisions and NOT logic, we stay stuck.

Yes, it may eventually โ€œhurt" to miss out on our dreams, but the survival mind associates more pain with failing (and pain is associated with death), so it will always prioritize avoiding the pain we risk feeling when we chase a dream.

Preventing the mind from putting on the brakes and keeping us in procrastination requires gaining greater self-awareness around our subconscious beliefs, fears, patterns, and identity, and transforming them.

This is the only way to overcome fear of failure and ensure we don't miss out on our dreams.โ€

On that note, my transformation book, The Nine Shifts, talks about how to transform your limiting beliefs and identity.

This allows you to overcome fears and stay in action around your health, wealth, and relationship goals.

BTW, was this useful?

If so, comment back and let me know!

Happy โ€œreaching your dreams,โ€

6 steps to a breakthrough (in any area)

Letโ€™s talk about a super important topic for your quality of life:

Limiting Beliefs

In short, limiting beliefs are super important because:

Your results are a reflection of what you believe
Your beliefs create your reality
Limiting beliefs create resistance/inaction and a cause a "gap" between where you are and what you want
In short, any area of life in which you're struggling (health, wealth, or relationships), you have a limiting belief holding you back.

So how can we overcome this?

SIX STEPS TO A BREAKTHROUGH
To have a breakthrough, we must identify the limiting belief and create a new belief or story that will help us take action toward our goal.

Pick an area you want to have a breakthrough in.
Ask yourself "What do I believe around this area?"
Think about what you feel in that moment (e.g. resistance, fear, boredom, anxious, etc.).
Think back to the past and identify when that internal conversation may have started.
Disassociate the feeling with what happened.
Reframe and create a new story about what happened that will empower you.
Repeat the new story to yourself daily, and really embody it, until you've rewired this old belief (you'll know you're getting there when your results start to improve).
*I talk more about how to do this breakthrough process in Chapter 16 of my book, The Nine Shifts.

Please know thisโ€ฆ

Rewiring your limiting beliefs is a deep, transformative process that will change your life and unlock your full potential.

This email alone is not going to get you there, but itโ€™s a good start.

Do the exercise above, and read my "Rewire Limiting Beliefs" chapter, and let me know how it goes.

Happy โ€œbetter beliefs,โ€

๐Ÿ˜” Have you "lost your wayโ€?

Have you ever felt like youโ€™ve lost your way?

This story will help...

For several weeks, I had been feeling stuck.

Was banging my head, trying to figure out this next phase of my career and business (post publication of my book).

I kept researching, observing, reading, watching, analyzing, etc. for a long time.

After weeks of doing my best to crack this nut, I felt like I had finally figured it out.

I was elated! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I could finally move forward.

I was clear on who I was going to beโ€ฆ

โ€ฆuntil I wasnโ€™t.

A conversation with my super-smart bestie, where she (lovingly) shot down what I was thinking, left me feeling deflated.

I was back at square one.

Back to feeling stuck. ๐Ÿ˜”

Luckily, a conversation I had with a client later that day helped me have a breakthrough.

I realized an important lesson

I had lost my way because I wasnโ€™t standing in my power.

I was trying to โ€œfit inโ€ to what everyone else was doing.

Trying to have the right โ€œspinโ€ and say the right things.

Trying to be and act in a way I thought โ€œtheyโ€ wanted me to be.

I was looking too much at what others were doing and forgetting who I was.

I was trying to find who I am by looking outside.

But who I truly am was within me all along.

I just got a little lost.

If youโ€™ve ever felt like youโ€™ve lost your way, or maybe feel that way now, remember this:

The world will always try to tell you who to be.

This can make us lose our way.

It disconnects us from our soul.

(And social media can make this way worse).

But the more we stand in our power, the less outside influences will affect us.

So, be true yourself and stand in your power.

Not matter what โ€œtheyโ€ say.

Youโ€™ll get back on the right path and youโ€™ll be found again, happily re-connected with your soul.

Happy โ€œstanding powerfully for you,โ€
