My experience of being the first Deaf woman having part of the men basketball team was awesome. I was really proud of my team that they continued to play hard during the double elimination games. It was challenging but they overcame it.

Hello everyone,

My name is Roxanna Aguilo and I am one of the Fanwood Alumni Association board officers. I’d like to thank and commend the FAA board officers for allowing me to fulfill the position as the first female head coach for the FAA/Def Familia Men’s Basketball team for 2019-2020. It is truly an honor to accept this new position.

As I take on this new role as the head coach I’d like to share a bit of my background and experience. I was a former FAA basketball player from 1995 to 2000. Within those years, some of my fondest memories include winning in 2nd place at the Regional Eastern Athletic Association of the Deaf basketball tournament in Hartford, Connecticut in 1998, winning the championship in 1999 and placing in third place in 2000. After the year 2000, I decided to return to the association as the manager for the New York Tornadoes Men’s basketball team from 2012 to 2017, where the team won in third place at the EAAD regional basketball tournament in 2014. Since then, I have been working the position as a board officer as well as the FAA Athletic Director.

I am looking forward to this new experience as head coach and thrilled to announce that the regional EAAD will proudly host the 75th Annual Men’s basketball tournament and the 30th Annual Women’s basketball tournament in March 2020. Soon after the EAAD tournament, the USA Deaf Basketball National tournament will also take place in April 2020. I wish all the teams good luck!
