If your child got tired while swimming, do they know how to stay safe? 🏊‍♀️ 💪

Rolling onto their back while swimming is a crucial safety skill every child should learn. It allows them to rest, breathe, and stay calm if they get tired or face an unexpected situation in the water—essentially giving them a way to stay safe and in control, no matter what happens.

I’m reminded that every lesson was about more than just swimming. It was about creating a space where children felt safe to laugh, confident enough to try, and supported with patience as they grew at their own pace.
This year was filled with progress, trust, and so many proud moments in the water 💙I’m deeply grateful to the families who believed in this journey and to the little swimmers who showed up ready to learn week after week.

Two of the first skills your swimmer will learn? Floating!
Front and back floats aren't just fun, they're essential for building water confidence, balance, and body awareness.

Front Float: Lying face-down with the body flat on the water.
Back Float: Lying face-up, relaxed, and buoyant on the surface.

These foundational skills give swimmers the trust in themselves to move forward with ease in every lesson.

What started as a personal goal to simply learn how to swim has grown into a lifelong passion—and I’m still teaching every day. From competing on my high school swim team, to becoming a certified lifeguard and swim instructor, I’ve gained years of hands-on experience working with swimmers of all ages and skill levels. I’ve also had the privilege of teaching through organizations like the Department of Education, helping students gain confidence, safety, and joy in the water.

At SJ Swim Master, I run my business with trust, transparency, and a focus on each student’s growth. Every lesson is tailored to your needs, whether you’re just starting out, building skills, or training for competition. My goal is to make swimming safe, fun, and empowering for every student.

✨ Parents and swimmers choose SJ Swim Master because they know I combine experience, professionalism, and genuine care in every lesson.

Simple tools, powerful skills
Kickboards and hand paddles might look basic, but they're key parts of almost every swimmer's learning journey.

Kickboard: A floatation tool used to isolate and strengthen a swimmer's kick.

Hand Paddle: Training equipment worn on the hands to increase water resistance, build strength, and improve stroke technique.

Know these terms? You're learning right alongside your swimmer, and that makes you an even stronger part of their success team.

Let's talk about progress... and why consistency is KEY!
Buying a swim package and spacing out sessions for months might seem like a smart move, but here's the truth:

🚫Taking a 3-4 week (or longer) break between lessons can actually slow your swimmer's growth, especially early on.
✅Staying consistent, weekly or biweekly, helps your child build:
💪Confidence
🧠Muscle memory
🌊Comfort in the water
👂Trust with their instructor

Think of swim lessons like learning a language, fluency comes from steady practice, not one class every few months. That's when the real magic happens.

Parents often ask: Is it normal for my child to cry during swim lessons? Absolutely! Crying usually means they’re adjusting—not that they’re hurt. New environments, instructors, or even water temperature can feel overwhelming.

Encourage them, remind them how strong they are, and stay committed. Progress takes time—but the results are worth it. From not wanting ears in the water to swimming with their face in, learning survival skills, and jumping into the deep end all by themselves… this is what trusting the process looks like. 💪🌊
