FREE Q***r Community Night with Crux’s Capital Region chapter on Thur 5/15, 6p-8p at (Latham)!
This month’s “Inside Activity for Outdoor Adventures” is an Outdoor Climbing Roadmap: Beyond Climbing Harder, presented by .
This clinic will help developing climbers feel more confident as they venture outdoors. Get an overview of outdoor styles and critical skills - and a specific roadmap of the physical, technical, and mental competencies needed to safely and independently climb outdoors. After this clinic, you’ll have the tools to map out individualized skill acquisition plans to meet your outdoor climbing goals.
Rita Strauss is an American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA) Apprentice Rock Guide with Alpine Endeavors. Rita teaches rock and ice climbing movement, helps clients transition from the gym to the outdoors, guides classic multi-pitch routes, and instructs experienced climbers seeking to hone advanced technical skills. She volunteers with several organizations to expand access to rock and ice climbing for LGBTQ+ communities.
Cost: Entry to the gym and event is FREE. (Usually, we encourage you to help honor the time, knowledge, and skills of our presenters with a $5-$20 tip. However, our presenter is declining tips this month.)
You are welcome to climb before and/or after this event (usual Crux Meetup gym pass rates apply). If this is your first time to the gym, even if you’re not climbing, you will be asked to sign the gym’s waiver.
Accessibility: **Masks strongly encouraged in the yoga room.** The gym has a large parking lot with accessible parking near the door. There is a curb cut in front of the manual double doors. All first-floor level, and no carpet between the doors, front desk, yoga room, and bathroom. 3 single-user, non-gendered, accessible bathrooms. Presentations are delivered in English. Please reach out with additional requests, such as large-print handout, where applicable.

We at CRUX are heartbroken to hear the news of Robbi and Melissa’s tragic accident in Alaska last week. We are speechless with grief.
Robbi Mecus was the best of us; we cannot understate the tremendous loss this is for our community and people who have known her. We mourn with her wide network of friends and family.
Melissa has a long road to recovery. Their medical/rescue expenses are being supported by a go fund me link in our bio. Please consider helping as much as you can.
If you need emotional support during this time please feel free to reach out to us.

We are deeply disappointed by
USA Climbing’s newly announced Transgender Athlete Participation Policy, which includes deeply harmful language and regulations that are rooted in anti-trans ideals.
The new policy includes several requirements for trans athletes to “prove” they are trans, which not only places an enormous time, financial, and emotional burden on trans individuals, it also invalidates diverse trans identities by asserting there is a specific, expensive, time-intensive, emotionally taxing path a person must follow to be “recognized” by USA Climbing as “legitimately” transgender.
These requirements significantly increase the barrier to trans participation in USA Climbing’s events and are wholly counter to USA Climbing’s espoused goal of a respectful, safe, and harassment-free environment.
We stand firmly against these policies and all forms of trans-exclusion.
Help us take action!
If you have experience in advocacy, grassroots organizing, or public relations please DM us or email [email protected].
