Refs miss calls and make mistakes every single game. But here’s the part most people don’t want to admit: it’s not just because they’re “bad.” According to ESPN, 80% of new referees quit within two years and the #1 reason is rude or abusive parents and coaches. When we run refs off the field, we’re left with fewer refs who have less experience and make more bad calls. If we want better refs, it starts with how we treat them during games and the grace we give them when they mess up.
