The Dirtfield: Queensboro Oval Baseball Under The 59th Street Bridge

Artie DeChecchi passed away. He was well-known to us at the Dirtfield. May he rest in peace.

Here is whole sordid story in The Daily News from February 19, 2010, recounting how they took The Dirtfield away from the kids of Manhattan.

Here is Joe Namath, from sometime in the early 1970's, swinging at a softball at The Dirtfield. Satch once told me that he was the one catching in the picture. I don't know who is umpiring, but maybe it is Al... Dennis Moulton, Charlie Stanton, and Reverend Hiemstra are nowhere to be found in this photograph.
