It's hard to beat the feeling of a late-spring morning ride on a good horse. The only thing that makes it better? Doing it in the middle of the best city in the world. 🌸

We've already been asked a lot: "Can you take more people?" "When are you adding bigger groups?"

The honest answer is never—and here's why:

Every ride we plan to offer will be capped at no more than three riders, a mounted guide, and a dedicated groom on the ground. It's not a limitation—it's our entire philosophy.

Small groups mean your guide is riding with you, not managing a line. A newer rider can push their comfort zone without feeling like a burden, while an experienced rider actually gets to ride, not shuffle. And with a groom always present on the ground, every detail is covered before anyone needs to ask.

We could take more riders out. But we're choosing not to. Because the moment we do, it stops being the experience we hope to build.

A year ago, I came across a beat-up Hermès Oxer saddle on Facebook Marketplace. We often buy older saddles outright for resale, but what happened gives me chills.

When our talented in-house leatherworker Ben started his training at the legendary Haras du Pin, one of France's most prestigious equestrian institutions, he was on the hunt for his first full restoration project. We entrusted this beautiful saddle, then weathered and worn, to him.

Under the guidance of his teacher, a former master saddler at Hermès, Ben stripped the saddle down to its bones, with the plan to breathe new life into it. New panels. New knee rolls. Hand-set Hermès nails.

Then came the discovery that stopped everyone in the workshop—and ours. We discovered that teacher had built this very saddle, more than 20 years ago.

The saddle that Ben was learning to restore had been made by the hands now teaching him. It had traveled the world, found its way to a Facebook listing, and, somehow,  ended up exactly where it needed to be.

She's came home today, 364 days to the day where a weekend Facebook Marketplace place browse sealed her fate. More beautiful than ever. And she carries a story no new saddle ever could. (And, no, I don't think she'll ever be for sale.) Welcome home. 🤎

Thanks to everyone who joined us for a special screening of ONLY ON EARTH by .petre 🌎 The film’s immersive, visually striking lens on the fragile balance between our natural world and human-animal relationships made for a powerful evening. We were also grateful to welcome members of the team, who shared how our urban equestrian community can support their program. And of course, house kitties McLain and Beezie made their rounds—generously accepting all the attention (as they should).

Please join us at Manhattan Saddlery for a very special screening of the film Only on Earth on Thursday, March 26 from 5 pm to 7 pm. The movie is an immersive, visually striking journey deep into Spain’s southern Galicia region, a vulnerable forest fire zone where grazing wild horses have for centuries played a critical role in managing flammable undergrowth. Today, a clash between human progress and nature is seeing the horses, and the cowboys who care for them, dwindle. In the movie, director Robin Petré explores Galician wildfires during the area’s hottest summer ever recorded, with humans and animals alike struggling to cope as inextinguishable flames draw ever closer. The screening is free and open to all, but we ask for you kindly to register with us so we can plan appropriately (there will be refreshments!). RSVP via link in bio by March 23!
