NY Astros Rally From Five Runs Down to Defeat Patriots, 11–9

Wednesday, May 6 — Greenlawn Memorial Park

The NY Astros LISM ’26 showed resilience and offensive firepower Wednesday night, storming back from an early five-run deficit to defeat the Patriots, 11–9, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

After falling behind 8–3 through the first two innings, the Astros chipped away steadily before erupting late to complete the comeback victory.

The Patriots struck quickly after the Astros opened the scoring in the top of the first when Cory Levy was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing home the game’s first run. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Patriots answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning on six hits. Jay F delivered the biggest hit of the frame with a two-run single to put the Patriots in control.

The Patriots extended their advantage in the second inning when Jerry lifted a sacrifice fly and Steve L ripped a two-run double to give the home team an 8–3 cushion.

But the Astros refused to fold.

NY Astros slowly clawed back behind a relentless offense led by Ryan Hayden and Dave Brohman. Hayden was nearly unstoppable at the plate, collecting three hits in three at-bats, including a key RBI double during the Astros’ decisive sixth inning rally.

The turning point came in the top of the sixth when the Astros finally erased the deficit. Hayden’s double ignited the comeback, while a hit batter and a run-scoring groundout by Phil Baldwin helped tie the game and completely shift momentum.

With the score knotted entering the seventh, the Astros capitalized on Patriots miscues. A defensive error allowed the go-ahead run to score before Greg Visco lined a clutch RBI single to extend the lead to 11–8.

The Patriots attempted one final rally in the bottom of the seventh when Chuck launched a solo home run to right field, but Astros reliever Dave Rivera shut the door to secure the victory.

Rivera earned the win in relief, allowing just one run on two hits over two innings. Mike Meilak also played a key role out of the bullpen, tossing a scoreless inning to keep the Astros within striking distance earlier in the game.

Despite allowing eight runs over four innings, starter Scotty McMillan battled through early trouble to help preserve the bullpen for the late comeback effort.

Offensively, the Astros pounded out 13 hits. Hayden and Brohman each recorded three-hit performances, while Justin Builes added two hits. Greg Visco and Phil Baldwin each drove in two runs as the lineup delivered timely hits throughout the night. The Astros also pressured the Patriots defense with four stolen bases and turned a double play defensively.

The Patriots finished with 12 hits in the loss. Steve L, Jay F, Timmy, and Jerry each collected two hits, while Steve L and Jay F both drove in two runs.

The dramatic comeback victory continued a strong stretch for the Astros as they prepare for their next matchup against the Sewanhaka Indians on Thursday.
