Need starts for your summer garden? We’ve got you! Help us fundraise for our June Batizado by either ordering a mystery box for $25 for 6 fun plants or come in person on April 11th to pick your own plants out! We’ll be by the Pergola at Lake Merritt. Each plant is $5-15 sliding scale! DM us if you want a mystery box!

We are so excited to host Mestres and to share the knowledge of safeguarding and preparing our bodies for Florieos, and then to have the guidance on execution…. It’s gonna be epic. We even have two hours at a gymnastics gym to really throw ourselves around! A workshop will also focus on those interested in how to teach Florieos. We hope to see you there.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Mestra Márcia will be not be able to join us this weekend. We will absolutely honor her at a future event 💪🏽.

The amazing Mestra Pavão 🦚 will be stepping in to teach Maculêlê on Saturday! Lucky us.

We are ADDING an extra music class on Friday 1:00 pm with Mestra Joy🦉at Casa de Cultura. BYOBerimbau.

For our Batizado this year, Poesia Dela 2025 🌵, we are super excited to announce our special guests: Mestra Joy, Mestra Colibri, and Mestra Márcia Cigarra! These powerhouse women bring unique perspectives, inspiring capoeira, and tireless ethic to their work for over 30 years 💪🏽🤸🏽‍♀️🔥

The process of growth in capoeira is deeply connected to time - time put in daily, weekly, and over years. So for this event, we are inspired by the mandacaru cactus. It is slow growing, taking 10-20 years to reach maturity. It also produces a beautiful flower that blooms only at night, which Mestre Moreira so beautifully wrote, “Mandacuru dá flor bela…a poesia é só dela.”

The poetry of the mandacaru and the poetry of capoeira both lie in their long arc of growth, resilience, and unexpected beauty. We look forward to celebrating this with everyone March 27-29 - we will have capoeira and Maculelê workshops, as well as a special presentation on the history of women in capoeira by .pedro. 👏🏽 Every month, on the first Sunday, CBEB holds our Roda do Mês for the community. Normally, it’s at the Clipper Club in Emeryville from 12-2pm. This month we’re moving to Saturday, April 6, 1-3pm to support CM Espantalho’s formatura and the Omolu Batizado on Sunday, April 7. Join us! 💪🏽🔥

Every month we have a Roda focused class where the students tune the berimbaus, start and end the Roda, and practice the rituals of this Afro Brazilian art form. There’s a lot to learn and a lot to practice! The students did great yesterday!
