Dr. Mike Nelson has spent years studying metabolism, recovery, physiology, and human performance, helping everyone from elite athletes to everyday people better understand how the body adapts to stress.
In this week’s episode, Dr. Nelson and I break down one of the most misunderstood topics in health and fitness: metabolism.
We explore what metabolism actually is, why it’s much more than simply “burning calories,” and how factors like muscle mass, movement, nutrition, sleep, recovery, and stress all influence the body’s ability to create and use energy efficiently.
Comment “METABOLISM” and I’ll send you the link to this week’s episode.
A lot of progress starts with asking better questions. Stay open, keep learning, and understand what actually works for you. That commitment to education is a big reason I aligned with – they put real time and research into helping people make more informed decisions about their health.
You don’t always need a goal.
I know that’s not what most coaches will tell you, but hear me out. Goals are powerful. They give us direction.
The problem is when they’re the only thing driving us.
What happens when the marathon is over? The competition ends? Too many people lose their motivation because they were chasing an event not building a lifestyle.
When I finished playing college baseball, I stopped training for a sport. Instead, I started training for life.
My focus became simple: get a little stronger, improve my body composition, move better, feel better, and show up with more energy every day.
That’s been my mission for decades.
I’ve learned that goals come and go, but a process can last a lifetime.
Fall in love with the daily habits. Chase consistency instead of constant finish lines.
The process won’t let you down.

One decision at a time. Big change doesn’t come from one giant leap. It comes from hundreds of small decisions stacked together over time. That is micro-momentum.
One workout.
One better meal.
One early night.
… on their own they seem insignificant, but stacked together they completely change the trajectory of your health.
Most of you are dealing with a major problem right now.
You’re comparing yourself to everyone else online.
You’re watching people who train six days a week, spend 90 minutes in the gym, meal prep every Sunday, and have been building these habits for YEARS…sometimes decades.
Then you look at your own life and wonder why you can’t keep up.
Here’s the truth:
You don’t need their routine.
You need a routine that fits your life.
If you’ve been inconsistent, don’t commit to six days a week.
Commit to three.
Don’t chase 90-minute workouts.
Start with 10–20 minutes.
Go for more walks. Strength train a few days a week. Stack small wins. Build micro-momentum.
I’ve watched people completely transform their bodies and their confidence by staying consistent with just three 30-minute workouts each week.
Once consistency becomes your identity, the results take care of themselves.
