I’ve spent a good bit of time here over the years and there are many cliffs… but nearly everything is encapsulated by the thickest jungle I’ve ever seen. I don’t mind bushwacking, but add venomous snakes, active land mines, and maybe the rare tiger to the equation and I think the approach is far more dangerous than the jump.
When I first spotted this little fella I was stoked on how accessible it was. We flew the drone over and estimated the cliff was about 100ft to the tree tops.. while not something I’d typically bother doing, I needed to check this country off the list. I had never heard of anyone ever jumping here, and for good reason.
I rode around all the villages and got lost trying to get to the base of the cliff.. by the time I actually found it, the sun was setting.
Then I had to bushwhack and free solo some gnarly stuff in my vans as fast as I could before nightfall hit. I was in such a rush, I nearly forgot about the cobras and vipers that fill this landscape.
I tried measuring it from the top but as you can see the ledge I was standing on was heinous and bushes blocked a clear line of sight for legitimate measurements. “Eh, about 100 ft is probably enough to clear the trees” I thought. Plus trying to down climb in the dark; NOPE.
All in all, I was peaking. Happy to not snivel into the treetops in a place where you for sure do not want to get hospitalized. Oh wait there are no hospitals nearby… even better!
This Gryphus 2 and I have been through some serious sh*t by now. Yes I am biased because I designed the canopy, but damn does it feel good to fully understand and master the thing you’ve created… each day I grow fonder of it. It’s capabilities are endless.
